The last issued contract finally returned, marked with the official seal. The final tally was made — and the clinking of gold soon faded, replaced by the guild leader’s improvised speech of gratitude. It seemed all the formalities had been observed. All except one.
"Why aren’t they leaving?" the guild leader quietly asked the assistant in charge of contracts standing nearby. He himself maintained his usual calm, gazing at the crowd before him.
"They’re waiting for a trophy," the assistant replied briefly, "Something symbolic. As a keepsake from this event."
"Oh, gods of greed!" came the restrained exclamation, "Do they take us for hunters or what?"
"To be honest, there was some confusion. Especially at the very beginning," the assistant spoke again, noticing the nervous glances exchanged among the ranks, "But that’s how business is done among the Imperials nowadays. Besides, it was all written in the additional notes of the general contract. Otherwise, the risks of refusal to cooperate would have been quite high."
"The Empire has spoiled Her offspring," the old mercenary remarked sternly, though he couldn’t contradict the formalities already set, "Alright, run to the warehouse and find something suitable."
"Yes, master," the assistant nodded obediently and was about to turn when the commander’s voice stopped him for a moment.
"Just don’t be too generous. Save the best for later, when we decide to get rid of another pile of useless paperwork," a knowing smirk appeared in response, "Go ahead, and I’ll say a few more words. For admonition."

Lords and Ladies! The Mercenaries’ Guild extends its gratitude to everyone who responded to their call and made an invaluable contribution to restoring order in the lands of the Empire and so on. They will also be glad to continue this kind of mutually beneficial cooperation from time to time in the future. Each of you who has successfully completed at least 12 contracts will additionally be awarded a unique artifact and receive the corresponding achievement! The durability of the artifact depends on the number of event points earned!
