Authordiamonds
It never occurs to me that I should have saved all my diamonds and then donate them to get "free" fancy artifacts (the sun, ice, wind sets). I always use them to buy elixir so my diamonds never exceed 10. Is it actually better to save them for later donation trades?
Do you mean saving diamonds or saving money to buy diamonds during a sale?

Because if it's the latter, then yes - sales also provide bonus diamonds along with arts, so it's always better to wait for them if you can.

You're getting confused here. You don't donate 'your' diamonds to get those fancy artifacts.
You have to 'buy' diamonds using real money to get those artifacts. For eg, in the last sale if you 'bought' 50 diamonds you'd receive +10% diamonds (total 55 diamonds you'll get) and Boots of Sun for free
I clearly misunderstood this "donation" thing :(
Every time such an announcement comes out, I only looked at the picture at the end and never bothered to read the few lines of text before it.
Now I finally get it (after being in this game for more than a decade): you use game gold or real money to buy diamonds and then donate to get "free" fancy artifacts.

Thank you all for explaining this basic fact to me :D
You don't donate the diamonds, you donate your real money to get the artifacts, but it is linked to the number of diamonds you have bought. You can't get the artifacts from diamonds via in game gold, although that wouldn't be cost effective anyway
Okay, I really get it now (hopefully with my slow brain): you can get those fancy artifacts for "free" only through paying real money to buy certain number of diamonds (e.g., 50 diamonds for a "free" artifact, 100 diamonds for two "free" artifacts, 150 diamonds for three "free" artifacts). The sales simply mean you can buy a few more diamonds (e.g. 10% more) with the same amount of real money.

Stingy as I am, I am already hesitant with spending my game gold. Real money? NO NO NO.

Good to know my way of spending the diamonds earned from events on elixir is not so much a waste then.
