Hey all :) I just won a thief’s guild invitation, but I remember there were rules put in a while back in regards to what you can do with them,

If you are talking about way back when the normal practice was to 'rent' a TGI. This is not allowed anymore and has also been made impractical by changes to the thieves guild.
The way this used to work:
The points required to get a TGI used to be much lower, you would received a TGI at thieves guild level 2 i.e. 120 wins (I think you also got one at TG5 so received 2, but memory is hazy on this)
Players would 'rent' their TGI to players deemed worthy and the idea was that they would quickly complete their 120 wins and return the TGI.
This was not a free service as it came with high risk. The player you loan your TGI to could stop playing, change their mind, quit the game or not return the TGI. There were many cases of this happening (the whole thing was changed because the admins were fed up with people crying about their lost TGIs)
The cost was negotiable but was typically both of the thief arts received at TG1 and TG2 and possibly some gold. At the time some of the good artifacts (ring/amulet/cloak) were worth 100 or 120k gold so it could be quite profitable.
To be eligible generally you needed to have a minimum number of enrols, clean transfer log and able to prove you had artifacts in your inventory.
It was typical to spend a week or 2 getting the 120 wins, the shortest I saw was about 2 days.
The whole thing was a win, win. Aspiring thieves got their TGIs much sooner and didn't have to save up. Those loaning TGIs could make a good profit in a short space of time if everything went well. |

People tend to buy it use it to enter TG, then you get one as a reward when you hit TG5 so you can sell it. |

Pretty sure you can get it from the chest however this is extremely rare and will cost a lot. Entry to the thieves guild can be bought with diamonds (donation currency) and is one of the most efficient uses for diamonds in the game.
