Living in such day and age, so easy to lie/manipulate/cheat online/media/TV/newspapers/ even state sponsored...
Does it hurt you when you see/hear/read a lie online? TV? Radio? Newspapapers?..
Yes or no, don't get in details... (who's got time for that?)

It was always easy to do this. |

At least they still have standards... 40 years ago! |
A few years ago I was reading about Ted bundy, the American serial killer, a mad man who would go on a multiple killing spree in the 1970s. He would travel from one state to another, approaching young women under the guise of a gentleman and you know the rest. I have also read about all sort of things he would later do with their corpses which he gathered in specific hiding places but that info is also widely available and I'm not going to talk about that.
The thing is, he was able to remain free even through multiple investigations and forces operating at a nearly national level for decades. You know why? There was no online media, no TV or newspapers with a reach that went beyond individual states. Because the guy changed his state so many times, he had free reign due the there being no cooperation and information sharing between the investigating bodies. It is going to appear so stupid and incompetent to a guy from 21st century reading what happened but that was the state before.
Anyway, I'm aware of the point OP is making and don't disagree one bit. The politicians, the celebrities, the influencers, or even the common people - everyone uses whatever they can to present things in a way that is convenient to their image and can hardly be expected to be genuine. I live in a country where people love to blame the media for everything. I too am often appalled and irritated by the never ending guessing game about their motives. Most people here in the US are ready to call it "Fake news" the moment something reported contradicts their beliefs. But I wanted to share the story above to give a perspective about where we were just 40 years ago. May be everything is not so bad just because the media has more influence. |
Yes it does. A lot!
I have got rid of my tele decades now since only vomit is coming from it.
Internet trolls have done a huge damage also, in a non well educated cultured etc era, trolling doesn't add any good on this but rather make misinformation and cruelty much bigger.
I am glad that I have grow up in a non internet or even pc era, so my future regrets are less and in a smaller impact. :D
VV that was more of the non comunication system they had between states than anything else. |
I agree with calamity.
too much politics , propaganda, lies all over the world. i stopped reading news regarding politics and all because of all the hate in the world :( |
For Calamity:
If you turn off all news because "everything is fake," I don't think that is a good solution to counteract the problem. It simply makes you uninformed or ignorant. I can completely understand not wanting anything to do with party politics but if you truly don't care much for it, you should be capable of filtering those aspects out.
Also, it's unfortunate but I cannot relate to anything you just said. I imagine most of it is a product of living in different times and places.
You got rid of TV because of the news or is it because you don't care for the entertainment options? There's a big difference.
Internet trolls might mean something different to you because I don't understand why you would complain about such a benign existence in the context of this discussion. |

I agree, shutting down the TV doesn't mean I don't get informed.
As a deeply political person I am reading everything from several sources all over the world and those from my country -not only the one's in my likeness- trying to do my best on filtering what I get, insteed of watching the 5-6 channels my country have which they are in deep shit and under the influence and bribeness of political party's.
We had some convictions on that matters recently.
For sure I don't come from the "everything is fake" mentality and I care deep for the shit I live in. If not me, then who?
I can have all the entartainment I choose to have and not the canned one tele gives me, like it or not.
Trolling doesn't add anything to the story, it's mean disorienting and hurtfull. I don't see the reason nore I have the time to waste at a stranger and their insecurities.
I don't concider a geniune jokester person as a troll, nobody should. |

This is something I needed to hear. Thank you for clarifying. I can respect your attitude 100% :) |
