I remember a few years back, the effect of Potion of Skill was that you received extra fsl for a given combat, up to one level less than your opponent.
However this is not anymore in the potion description and instead now it says you receive 'average for your level' and a table with the info. So now all people using the potion at my level fight with fsl 9 in all battles, regardless of enemy fsl if I understand properly? | I'm extremely skeptical of the information in that table. For example, it says that the average skill level for CL 7 is 6. Hell no. A quick look at the statistic on guildofheroes tells me that no matter how I interpret "average of your level", it's just not true.
If it refers to the average level for a specific faction among all CL 7 players, then nuh uh. Even if you specialize in that faction, the maximum level is apparently only 7. The vast majority of CL 7 players have level 0 in that faction.
If it refers to average level of all factions for an average player (for example, I have 4 levels in a couple of factions, 3 in one, and 2 in the rest, which average to 3.7), then also no. No way it's 6.
So what is this "average" they're talking about? Are they talking about a hypothetical average that you would get if you had been playing that particular faction exclusively?
Also, what happens if your faction level is higher than what's in the table, and you consume the potion? | | When they say "average faction level" they mean an average of players' highest faction level (e.g. mine is 10). | | The average is set for every combat level. In most games you get the average. But if there is a game in which fsl-1 of same or lower level combat player allows you to have a fsl that is higher than the average fsl of your combat level, then that is what you get for playing with them. | Also, what happens if your faction level is higher than what's in the table, and you consume the potion?
