At least with those you only have to box them in the first turn
With the hobgoblins theres nothing you can do until you have a creature that can kill the priest before they use firewall

well, if ur a wizard or any class that can access lv 4 holy magic, you can teleport them away |

goblin cannot move to save themselves. Their speed is 0.
If you want them to move you should have something that increases speed of allies (I'm not sure if the thief set works with allies).
But then they will move always, in baby steps, even if you think they shouldn't.
My suggestion, as knight, is skip all vanguards until you get Monks on next level.
Once you have them you can start doing vanguards, unless they have some really fast shooters. |
