AuthorChain lightning
Hi,

How is determined which stacks get hit? I understand that it calculates distance and picks the closest one of the last unit hit, BUT when the distance is exactly the same, how does it pick?
i dont remember fully but can give u hint.
it choose the distance according to coordinate system. You can watch previous battle to determine whether it hit creature with lower coordinate or higher coordinate.

(I remember lower but can be wrong).

But no idea for (2,3) and (3,2) and similar position. Watch last tournament battle to determine.
Verified.

it choose the distance according to coordinate system.
it hit creature with lower coordinate

Example - if creature hit first at 2:9 and other creature at 1:8 and 2:10 then 1:8 get hit first and then 2:10.

if i find for (2,3) and (3,2) and similar position, i post here. :)
If distance is the same then target will be picked randomly.
If distance is the same then target will be picked randomly.

I would guess it's not. With phantom, there's a ruler I forgot, something like prioritizing say below, then left, then right, then up. If all occupied, then it's corner with another preset rule for where to check for free tile first.

That's a wild guess but I would expect it uses the same rule to pick target for chain lightning.

@Marinebiologist: looks like you meant 1:8, 2:9 and 3:10 for coordinates, otherwise it should move from 2:9 to 2:10 (closest) and then 1:8. I have observed it *seems* to favor right over left but I'm unsure for the rest.
for Slust:
In some cases (like phantom or any other new unit appearing on the map) it's left-up-down-right.
In other cases (like lightning or berserker's rage) it's pure random.
As far as I remember chain lighting is not random. There was a topic about that somewhere on forum.

Maybe I'm wrong but what I'm sure when calculating distance between large (2x2) creature its upper left corner count as position.
chain lightning uses the pythagoras theorem to determine the next target if hostiles are standing diagonally.. yes, it uses the coordinate system to derive distance..if u hit a large creature, the distance is measured from one of the 4 tiles (where the stack is standing) one clicked.
