Author | Random troop allocation on TB scale. |
I would love to know the reason why we have it at the beginning of the combat? Doesn't it defeat the purpose of having higher/lower initiative on hero?
While we already have Luck, Morale and Trigger Abilities with Random probabilities, why this too?
P.S. "Why" and not "How". | ATB* Scale. (Title) | https://www.lordswm.com/forum_messages.php?tid=1832909 | The answer to 'Why'
because some creatures has equal ini. Of course would be more sense if randomness would be applied only to equal ini creatures instead of making creature with 15 ini first turn against 15.1 | What this means is, explaining it on the "lap runners" example, the runners do not start from the same point, they're randomly scattered within a "10% of the lap length" interval beyond the start line =) This makes things unpredictable, and sometimes provides a chance for lower-initiative creatures get their first turn before the higher-initiative creatures do.
copy from Arctic :) | The Lap Runners example is not really something which should be used as an analogy tbh. The scattering of starting points is directly related to the circumference of each track when it comes to track races, so although it may seem they are initially scattered, in reality they are at the same distance from the lap line.

^This is rather a better alternative.
Presently a 15ini creature "May" get a turn before a 15.9 ini creature. When it comes to Luck and Morale, the probability system is fine, but Initiative is an inherit parameter of a creature, and given the huge window of 1.0 Initiative for this random allocation, it pretty much covers majority of the primary units.
Hence I ask why is the essense of "Randomness" added to initiative. What's the harm in simply following it as it is? | its there to give weaker players a chance | it's not really about giving the weaker players a chance, it's about replay-ability.
randomness results in more replay-ability. the more predictable a game is the sooner it becomes boring and repetitive.
LWM is fun because of it's unpredictability. | and given the huge window of 1.0
if a creature had 18 ini it can be as low as 16.2 and one with 15 ini will hv max 16.5
so a creature with 15 ini might come before a 18 ini?
well at least even if thats not true im sure its not just 1.0, should be at least max of 2.0 even if the change is 5% each, with 10% each much more
anyway, i believe it would be too much predictable the way u r suggesting. especially in elf vs elf, whichever bow goes first, usually wins so anybody can predict who will win. also, initiative would gain too much importance cuz right now most ppl would compromise ini for attack but if it were so much more important everyone would have only focused on ini. also, anny other grp battle would be too much predictable.
also think about this, somebody created a grp battle and has +10% ini, and if somebody joins purposely with +11% he has a much better chance, whereas the way it is now, if u want certainty of going first, u need to compromise other stuff like att, def, morale, luck and if u think about it, its much more fair, and more importantly much more logical :) | for randomr1:
A creature can get extra ini, but not lose ini. The interval is from 0% to 10%, not from -10% to 10%. So, a creature with 18 ini will always play first than one with 15. And I'm not sure, but I think a creature with 15 ini can't play before a creature with 16.1 ini.
Random can make you win battles or lose them sometimes. It makes things interesting, sometimes you win even if it is against the odds. :) | i see so a creature with 15 in can hv up to 16.5 and another creature with 16.5 can be as low as 16.5 so if there are 2 such creatures, at the extreme their ini's will be tied and there is a chance that 15 ini will go before 16.5 ini, although the chance is very small.
But again, as i said, the whole point of this is that if u want certainty of going first, u will have to compromise on other parameters and although keeping things intersting might be a reason, this point is also a very big reason for this:) |
