As the Help says, protectors get "unlimited retal" at lvl 2 spirit. Problem is : it does NOT show on the stack when you are fighting them, so you need to know it by heart.

As it happens, a very bad move is made during battle thinking that retal is taken on protectors. It's a defense against Survilurgs, which ended in losing the facility. The battle could still have been lost, the facility could still have been lost... Still what happened in that battle because of improper display is a *very* costly mistake.
What can be done ?
