You need 10 fern flowers to unlock a fifth enchantment slot. Without them, you can have 4 slots at the most.

For example, if you want to enchant a sword with I10E10A10W10F10 enchants, you need 10 fern flowers + 30 of all the other elements. If you were enchanting a sword to E10A10W10F10 only, you wouldn't need fern flowers.

Up to 5 different modification types can be set on every artifact. This amount depends on the enchanter's guild level. To enable the setting of 5th enchantment on any item, 10 Fern flower elements must be used
