I think of a 3d lwm where lords will be able to have conversation in open map places.. Trading centers will be present..
Places to chill...
Our own Palace.. I know this needs lots of effort ..i know that lwm will never become like this,,
Im just saying a idea that lwm would have for more activity if it was 3d interactive world.. |
9. Personal "village" (Ceasar, SimCity type).
Already mentioned by arctic in upcoming features:) |
I got it.. Very nice.. ! but still im trying to get the opinion of people how awesome this update will be .. because i have tried many of my friends to play this game.. but once they see my homepage .. they say.. im not playing this boring game.. I myself am addicted to this game a lot.. they don't wish to see the main storyline of the game and battles .. But a 3d world will be more attractive! |
+1 i think this game will be more interesting ;D |
+1 :) |

nice idea. But ,3D as in client based game or browser only?
If client based, then it would limit the playability. Player banned by moderator ElfPride until 2013-10-21 13:10:06 // FR#1.7//Written in profile-"Abandoned Account",still being used, hence I consider it as a multi (warning) |
3d everywhere.. Except the page where we login :D we will have public places like trading centers , tea rooms , wine rooms , parks :D our own village ... would be awesome right? :D |
We can use battles like Heroes of might and magic 6 :) |
I am a programmer and would love to contribute to such an effort since I love this game :-) |

it all seems nice and modern. But, there are a few reasons why I don't think this is a good idea.
LWM is a fun game because it is really free, you don't get any serious disadvantage by not donating, and because you're not forced to donate you can play at your own pace, even quitting for months and coming back when you have the time. making it 3D means a large initial development cost, and more importantly the requirement for much larger and faster servers (which cost a lot to maintain). note that even now the game server can barely keep up with the traffic at event times resulting in serious lags and service failures. now imagine having the serious traffic demands of a 3D engine! you would need serious budgets to maintain the necessary servers.
One other thing to consider is that right now we can play LWM anywhere we are on our phones. a transition to 3D would take away this.
And finally, the thing that makes LWM attractive is that it's about the gameplay itself not graphics, and even though I'm a sucker for graphics, I really don't see how it could make it more fun to play! |

Totally agree with gmt325gh |
@11: Keep the whole game mechanism the same but only "enrich" the client's end to display 3D. ==> No extra weight on servers, except communication in the initial phase for transferring the flash (which would likely be larger).
To keep playing on phones and other mobile gadgets, make the 3D display an enable/disable option (preferable auto-detectable). The disable option would be useful even for normal computers that are not fast, since I expect the 3D graphics to require more resources on the client's end.
I do appreciate nice graphics in a game, otherwise I would just play tic-tac-toe with a pen on paper all day long... But LWM already has nice graphics/animations -- at least I like them (can't say I'm rolling over my head for the sounds effect though, I almost always giggle when hearing them).
Having 3D capability would be slightly interesting, and more captivating at least for the newcomers, but I am not sure if it would justify the development effort.
So, 0 from me. |
@navi:
what you're saying is not the same as what the thread is suggesting.
I think of a 3d lwm where lords will be able to have conversation in open map places.. Trading centers will be present..

you're suggestion is something that can be considered since it won't have any serious effect on the server traffic.
But, in order for your idea to work the game has to change from a browser based game to a downloadable client game, otherwise, every time some one refreshed his browser cache/uses a new computer/updates his browser/game gets updated/... the whole engine would need to be reloaded. which would result in high server traffic as well as lots of AFKs!!! |
Well gmt.. I think your critizising this too much :/ there are lots of games like this ( smallworlds , runescape ) , i don't play those because they are chit when compared to lordswm's storyline , events ,peoples.. lwm has developed a lot.. 3d games don;t give that much lag.. i play shadowgun In online.. I experience no lag.. it is a very nice 3d game but not better than lwm ofcourse.. |
yea! because they make a lot more money than lwm, so they can afford high performance servers!
financially those games use a subscription model while lwm is based on donations.
what does this mean? those games force the player to pay to gain access to critical parts of the game, or they force the player to buy a special form of in game currency otherwise inaccessible to use on special features. and that is the most important part. you will HAVE to pay real money. you can not be a better/smarter player to access those features of the game.
while in lwm, donations will give you diamonds, a currency that you can buy with in game money. which means if you're a good and smart player you don't need to donate, unless if you actually and sincerely want to "donate".
imagine a lwm where you have to pay real money to be able to go beyond level 10, or every time you want to change factions, or having to pay real money to be allowed to participate in events. |
Well gmt.. they don't do totally depend on donations.. well if the game is going to be 3d.. it would be awesome and would make more people to donate which infact is very good,, I myself have been a businessman in smallworlds having like 3 million gold without any donation.. |
