AuthorLordswm is now a russian game
I can't communicate with my team in group battles or duels because almost everyone only speaks russian.
All the leading MCs are russian and the text in the diamond repository is still in russian.
So, is lordswm a russian game?
I first thought this is an announcement or something ;)
to be fair, it was always a russian game ;)

In GBs you can talk with your team mates with numbers. For example you can write the coordinates of the battlefield tiles.

All the leading MCs are russian
There are more than enough english-speaking MCs which are competitive as well.

I am using google translator and it is working great. and also some of them know English well enough to play as a team.
for TheoTheGreat:
Lord SV22 is right. you can use the google translator. and some russian players know english or use this translator too. it should not be a problem

i am a member of the daily hwm newspaper and we even translate some news/articles/interviews for you:

Some russian players speak english and communicate with you. Some more than others but you can still manage to communicate.

In battles, if you cannot communicate with someone, i am usually suggesting moves using the following "rules":

for attacks before the specified troop turn:
(number of attacking stack) -> (number of stack to be attacked)
e.g. i would like the 200 sleketons to attack 20 furies. Thus: 200->20

for attack DURING the specified troop's turn:
just write the (number of stack to be attacked)
e.g. i would like the 200 sleketons to attack 20 furies. Thus: 20

for moving:
(number of attacking stack) -> (target tile coordinates)
e.g. I would like 20 furies to move to 1:8. Thus 20-> 1:8
The stack and tile specification is not that much effective. I would suggest you to be familiar with some commonly used words like, raise, caster, stun etc.,
I just remember the "good" old times before the merge. I use numbers to communicate but the official game language is supposed to be english. I join a 3v3 GB and my chat is full of russian things.
the official game language is supposed to be english
There are a lot of russians who don't know english. If they would constrain players to talk only english many of them couldn't understand the language as we don't understand it now. And russians outnumber international players.

However, this is a good opportunity to learn a new language ;) Who knows when you will need it?

so as in anold times
lol

Yeah. I already learnd a 3rd one (English). Nice to see that many Russian don't want to bother learning a 2nd one (beside Russia).
I think the most hardest part on learn russian is, their alphabet is different, my keyboard doesn't write this proprety because their alphabet isn't the same, some times a single letter could be repeted several times, to not mention the strange design of letters (which is a small issue)

Anyway, I think russian and most asia languages are hard to learn online because of those things above, while amercan languages (sounth/north) and most of europe use a very similar system of writing, which turns really easy to learn...
for Lycanthrope:
you are right about writing (though you can use the google translator that converts latin characters to cyrillic by fonetics), but reading is not a problem once you know how the letters sound. And it's interesting that once you know the alphabet, many words in russian are similar to the ones in english (like "rating", "personaj" for character - it sounds like person, some creature names (i.e. lich, vampire), heroes=gheroi, protocol, registratiya for registration, carta for map (carta is greek and latin word), ruletka for rulette, forum is the same, chat same too, gildiya for guild etc)....

Other asian languages (chinese, japanese and others) are way more different than russian. I think russian is "learnable" :).
tis possible to recognise the words, but knowing how to pronounce is beyond us mere humans.
Well, I'm not from england but that doesn't mean I speak Greek all the time. If the point of the merge was to have a big russian server we could just have an option to transfer to .ru
-I don't hate russians, I just hate to be the one who's using translator to play an english game
...and again. This game IS russian. 10.000 vs 1.000 players make it russian.
The .com server had a peak of around 2,300 people online at any given time in the months before the .ru/.com merger. During that time, .ru had a peak around 14,000... After the merge, the numbers really played out.

In all honesty, most of the .com players do not originate from all-English speaking countries. Croatia, Phillipines, France, Germany, and India are the big ones, with very little representations from Australia, Canada, United States, and England - generally these people speak their native languages with their friends (as they did on .com pre-merger)

I do not believe you are exactly being fair here either, I would much rather have a battle whenever I want it, a stable(r) economy, and events than have no one online.

One more tidbit: Using BabelFish translator, I've actually started to pick up on some rudimentary Russian - It's almost as easy to learn as French or Spanish once you understand their alphabet.
i think this is stupid, we have no right to complain about different languages on this game,

i am english and when people speak russian or other languages it doesnt take much effort to use an translator.

there are hundreds of different languages across the world so you cant complain because people are talking in a language you dont understand
