Author | Repairing Items versus Buying New |
I am of the view that repairing an item half a dozen times before selling it is cheaper than selling a used up item and buying it new half a dozen times.
Has anyone worked out a matrix or analysis on the costs and benefits of repairing versus buying new?
I ask this question because a repairer who repairs at 90% for 105% of cost told me it is usually cheaper to sell and buy the item outright again.
Without digging too deep in the math, repairs seem to be a slightly cheaper option. Maybe I'm wrong. Advice please.

Hunter sets MH sets GH sets and BB sets are costly to repair

For usual non-enchanted shop arts repairing is cheaper when the % of repair is bigger than % of cost (for example, [Repair][70%] for [50% costs]). |
for enchanted art, repair is very cheap compared to make a new enchanted art.
for shop arts, usually cheaper if you buy a new one.
example sword of might,
if you buy a new one and sell after reach 0 durability, the cost per use is 128 gold.
if you repair with cost 11760 and get 72 durability (90% efficiency), cost per use is 163. |
Repair becomes reasonable (for non-enchanted shop arts) ONLY when discount by smith is 15% or more (80 for 65, 60 for 45 etc). If not - it is always better to sell item and buy a new one. |
Some arts are cheaper to repair, dependent on the discount.
For example, you can repair a Tower Shield 9 times with a smith that offers 70% repair for 55% cost, without any loss at your side. (Thanks STBs for that).
But if you are choosing to get it repaired, you would need to be particular with the smiths you used and the discounts you gained. |

I'm sure this'll help you. Note that it doesn't consider the gold you get from selling the artifact, I'll probably add it later if I find a formula on the gold you get from selling a used artifact. This just compares the gold per battle you'll have if you repair it and the gold per battle if you bought it new (but without the gold you get from selling the old).

i was thinking about the same as ravensclaw...
isn't it cheaper to repair low lv equipments as defender shield and reprisal sword instead of buying a new one? and if it is cheaper, why do i see 95% of time only new equipments with max durability on other players? |
and if it is cheaper, why do i see 95% of time only new equipments with max durability on other players?
Because it isn't cheaper. It is only cheaper if smiths give discounts such as 50% repair for 30% cost. But even then it is only cheaper for the first few repairs since each repair reduces the max durability by 1. This is even more significant for low level low durability arts since a reduction of 1 durability is a higher % of the max durability. Also even with the 50% repair 30% cost example this is only slightly advantageous to repair, which is why after a few repairs it would reach the break even point compared to rebuying. |
i am shure i am wrong, but i don't see why it is cheaper..xd
i a have a 0/40 shield and decide to repair it for 90% at 110% cost...
it will become a 36/39 shield at the cost of 1496...
buying a new shield would cost me 3300...
why is it cheaper to buy a new one? what calculations am i doing wrong? :| |
Have u subtracted selling price from 3300? |
You have to subtract selling price from 3300. |
You have to subtract selling price from 3300.
And if you do so, you'll find that the cost of replacing the shield is only 1155. |
for Shinigame:
you'll find that the cost of replacing the shield is only 1155.
That was your math problem!!! |
thanks...
my bad...XD |
