Well it depends :
- Combat level
- DE, Demon or Wizard and of course Faction level for wizard if against neutrals
- Spell powers
But let's say, the chain of lightning and meteors are the best against one or the first unit hit! |

Misleading (Ligthning will give more damage in some cases.

#11 agreed for Lightning but chain of lightning is doing : 20 + 20*SP so exactly the same as Meteor...
I avoid the amount of packs!!! Basicly they are equal!

sometimes poison with Expert Darkness Magic and Dominion of Pain turns deadly...
but if you mean chaos spells, then it`s difficult to say.
for sure, lightning (chain lightning as well) is the most effective spell if you choose one target to annihilate.
if several troops are standing in seductive square then use fireball.
the meteorite shower isn`t that splendid cause the more stacks its area of destruction involves, the less damage it deals to each of them.

Look them over and adjust talents, knowledge and spellpower when needed.
Remember, sometimes it's better to deal little damage lots of time, than alot of damage only once. Of course, sometimes it's better to do one big spell fast. |

The spell doing the most damage cannot be called the best spell... Though...
Expert Chaos Magic :
Lightning 17*17 SP - 5 mana
Metiorite rain 20*20 - 16 mana
And after that if you target more than 1 unit, damage reduces :P |
