Just a thought..
It seems that getting Commanders' Guild points is going to be a very slow process, at least at level 13 anyway.
Awarding CG points to a player who successfully defends against an ambush would not only speed this up, it would also give people less reason to complain about thieves :D
Defending against an ambush is no easy task, so CG points would reward this effort properly. |
I think it's a good idea, at least even if they lose, they win something.

Thieves gain something if they win. Why shouldn't ambushed people gain something too if they win?

Thieves should get their points from winning against caravans, which in normal/natural conditions makes about 90% of the ambushes.
Unless a thief is specializing in stalking players this change should have a minimal impact on the average thief. And would give a reason to fight for in case one is ambushed... |
Minimal is relative and random.
Yes thieves are supposed to face caravans and get points by defeating them, but since the system involves facing other players you cannot write it off.
I'd be very annoyed if I were to face a chain of thief hunters in full arts all looking for CG points.

I agree with this idea. CG points are very hard to come by at high levels. |
It's problematic, because it's usualy not an equal battle. If both players have approximately same arts, thief has an advantage. If victim has min art, thief wins. If victim has full art, victim wins.
That's why I don't see this idea likely to implement, although thief ambush IS a kind of PvP and could be CG rewarded. |
^^ Nice idea, at least commander and thief can build points in a mutual series of combats ;) Also add more element to PvP battle. |

Exactly! The very existence of the thief guild is a good enough reason for an 'anti-thief' guild, and CG points could do this. |

I think it is a good idea, though agree with jrf, the balancing which is enforced in all other CG battles is not in a thief one. Therefore I think if it did have a CG benefit, it should be fairly minimal, similarly to a hunters assist. Therefore there is a small incentive, but not so large as to create teh kind of situation envisaged by Zeno. |
if this idea is realised u could safely rename Commander guild into Cowards guild as the thief hunters do just that already. Fear of facing hero in equal arts has put already too many players in the thief hunter role. |

But that makes no sense, as most people travel the map without arts and thiefs usually wear middle-full , so where is the 'equal arts?'
I've never heard of anti-thieves being described as cowards, it's always the other way round. |
@15. Many thiefs do min arts. It's silly to do full arts as thieving, the difficulty will rise or lower until you start losing as many as you win. You may as well make that point min arts, not max arts.
A thief hunter is near always going to have an art advantage over the attacker and get the win. Getting CG points for a successful ambush defence, will make their be a lot more thief hunters and a lot less CG battles. |

No Merlin it is not. Thief hunter is someone in full arts, travelling back and forth, he knows that only thing he can meet is thief hero giving him a nice set of exp and fsp. Most thieves cannot afford to wear full arts at thieving at high level because they might just waste them to fight a caravan that is impossible anyway or gives only 1 faction skill.

That might have been true at levels 6-10. Not above 11 when most people travel full arted to meet thieves in steel set/min AP. There is really no reason to encourage thief hunting in any way. There is a lot of them already. |
^^ This isn't about encourage thief hunting in any way. Map is bigger now, thief who doesn't want to meet lords can go to other regions. Also in these after-LG days not many people travel in full arts. |

What route would you suggest to avoid players? Since it probably works this way: When a player that is not your level goes your way, you will get caravan instead of ambushing him. Now tell me where is the supposed route where you can get players that only trigger caravans and not players of your level?
If you set an ambush at some Great Capital <-> Seraph Stronghold kind of route, there is no way to get caravan in less than 2 hours(average). If you set it on the normal, most populated routes GC-SH or GC-YL, you are sure to ambush a player once in a while.
It is not as easy as it might seem to someone that doesnt do ambushes at all.. |
18 not sure if u noticed but surely not but where ppl dont travel almost no caravans appear aswell i dont rly like to wait 1-2 hours for single caravan. |
