Okay, so this is the problem. Those ''Lodestone Golems'' (stupid name, btw) have their special abilities which recover their Health as they get magical damage.

In this battle (I tried twice) they first got damage about 50% of normal from my Lightning (I think it's 'coz of my Magical Piercing), but after it they also regained some HP back.
So what is the point in these strange creatures? Someone explain? I quess we can't use this for a long time, but still.... |

You can look up special abilities here.
There's no real point in this creature or any of the other new ones. They are just new creatures to fight against. |
Imagine Lodestone Golem with Armageddon Spell.
Yummy!

Does the background of the creature animation remind you of something?

And what is it you find so stupid in the name? =) |
Lodestone is a "Ye Olde" term for a magnet or rock with magnetic properties.
You will notice that one of the abilities of the Lodestone Golem is "Magnetism".
So perhaps the name is more appropriate than you imagine.

Magnetism... Hmmm.....
So if i find some iron tipped arrows, wont it be kinda hard to miss them ?
;)

for Yuvika: only if you find the right pole :P
I still have a question: does magic piercing makes him heal more? or he is just hit more than he should but he heals with the basic damage the spell would have done? |

hmm.. I thought about 2 magnets. you're right.
but I still don't know the answer of does magic piercing makes him heal more? or he is just hit more than he should but he heals with the basic damage the spell would have done?
And sorry for double-post. |

This kind of question I also had. I knew it's HOMM5 alt. grade, but the question is HOW does it's abilities work.
Imagine Lodestone Golem with Armageddon Spell.
If I remember right, in Tribes of East (though, it's ''completely'' different game) Magnetism didn't affect when you used armageddon... |
Lode-coated:
This creature is completely immune to any spells except those which instantly deal direct damage. Such spells heal this creature (with resurrection) for half the damage they would normally have dealt.
So Armageddon would damage all the stacks on the field. But it would actually heal Lodestone Golems instead. Damage your enemies. Heal yourself. Sounds good to me.

Penguinmaniac deals 36 damage to Lodestone golems with the Lightning spell. 1 perish.
Lodestone golems restore 20 hit points.1 resurrected.
Copied from the battle info. Looks a little off for either scenario. As a level 6 DE penguinmaniac pierces 47% of Magic Resist/Immunity. The basic damage must have been 77 (6 SP, no magic talents). With 47% piercing, damage is 36.19 (77x0.47).
The Golems should heal 18 damage by the ability description. The battle info says 20 damage is healed. If it was based on "basic" spell damage, it would heal 38.5 damage.
Bug?

Interesting fact - the damage prevented by the Lode-Coated ability would be 40.81 (77x0.53).
The damage healed was 20 which *is* half of the damage *prevented*.
Intended implimentation or error in coding the healing formula?

Well, it seems logical to me to be like this.
Because it cannot absorb the spell that damaged him, but the one that didn't.
So if the hero had no piercing, there would be no damage dealt ( 77x0% to follow your example ). And he uses 100%-0%/2 of the damage to resurrect, am I right?
And in penguinmaniac's example, 100%-47%/2 is used, so 53%
So yes, The damage healed was 20 which *is* half of the damage *prevented*.
I don't think there is any error.
And this would mean that normal casters do absolutely no damage with spells. |
Okay, thanks for everyone who worked with this problem :) I leave this topic open if someone still has questions about ''Lodestone Golems''. |
The problem is that the ability says that the golems gain life based on "the damage that would be dealt".
This makes it sound like the life gain is based on the damage dealt. In fact the life gain is based on the damage that is *prevented*.
A small cosmetic change to the description will make it much easier to understand.
Currently it says for half the damage they would normally have dealt.
What it needs to say is something like for half the damage that is prevented by this ability.
Have Fun
