Author | Best RPG games for the PS1 |
So this will probably only appeal to the old school gamers but I've recently acquired Final Fantasy 7, Chrono Trigger (the remake for the ps1) and Final Fantasy Tactics. All working and under 30 dollars for all of them.
I've been trying to collect the best ps1 rpg games as a hobby for the last year now and so far I've already gotten XenoGears, Wild Arms 2, Breathe of Fire 4 (personally I think 3 was the greatest one ever!) Saga Frontier and Legend of Dragoon.
I've heard Suikoden was another good one, I'm currently youtubing it to see what it looks like because now that my girl has a job again I can resume my hobby :) yaaay
The purpose of this thread is not solely to pride on my prize possessions but to inquire for more classic titles or sleepers that were great but somehow missed the mainstream radar.
Ones I already know of are Grandia, Chrono Cross, Dragon's Quest and Romance of the 3 kingdoms (which I know is strategy not rpg but I love strategy games also so if you know of any include those too :)) |
Nice collection.
Final Fantasy 7
Awesome, but for me was the start of the death of the FF series.
Chrono Trigger
SNES version for me..... many many fond memories and replay value.
Romance of the 3 kingdoms
Great series!
Dragon's Quest
Also previously known as Dragon Warrior! :) |
chrono trigger was a really great game...:)
dragon quest is one of my favorite series now...ff is just kinda too "different" for ME, anyways... |
well I just previewed Suikoden and from the looks of it, it acts like chrono trigger with combining two or more people with either magic or physical attacks to make one attack, cool for sure. Now I can't wait to get it.
I just thought of another game I would like to get is Star Ocean 2 |
Secret of Mana, Secret of Evermore.
The older Final Fantasys! FF1, FF2, FF3 (US numbering). |
you should get yourself a copy of Brigandine if you like Strategy RPG |
My two favorite all time ps1 games would have to be diablo and crono cross. |
If it's strategy... down nostalgic lane would be Shingen the Ruler. |
Does Harvest Moon count as a RPG? |
For Straws, wasn't harvest moon for the nintendo system?
For Pantheon, wasn't Secret of Evermore the one with the dog and his master? That was Nintendo too, but heck yeah, that was an AWESOME game. Wish it would be remade again. However, Shingen is not one I've heard before, thanks :) time to youtube it, :)
Though, the Secret of Mana (or whatever the proper name for the ps1 or maybe even ps2 title in my opinion was raspberries) On a great note, the ps 1 and 2 did re-release the original versions of the old school Final Fantasy series, very excited to try and get my hands on those.
DragonFlayer, I'll check out Diablo too.
Dan-Panic, thank you, thank you, thanks...that was a name that I forgot about, I LOVED THAT GAME!! That is for sure on the list, hehe, THANKS again :)
Thank you everyone for all of your input :) if no one else were to add to this thread I'm sure I'd be busy for at least 6 months or so trying to collect these titles but I wouldn't mind some more titles. |
haha, just remembered another one, Vagrant Story :) |
Harvest Moon: Back to Nature for PsX. :) |
Does Harvest Moon count as a RPG?
I would count it as such.
For Straws, wasn't harvest moon for the nintendo system?
The original was, but it was later ported.
wasn't Secret of Evermore the one with the dog and his master?
Yep, snes! One of the best games. Replayed that one several times.
Shingen is old school nes. One of the first strategy type games I played. Very much like romance of the three kingdom series.
I never played the re-releases of the FF series. Before they came out I was very hyped about the news, but it took them too long to come out. And when they did, it was during this gap of several years that I stopped gaming. I played FF1, 2, 3 as they came out, so it was Nintendo all the way.
Diablo was great too. Loved playing with friends on that. While on that topic, RTS (real time strategy) games: Warcraft and Starcraft! |
Harvest Moon: Back to Nature and crono cross.
Besides some of the FF games, these two are the best things to have happened to the PS X system ^^
From the FF games, I'd say my personal fav is FF VIII and FF Tactics (don't know if that counts, though) |
FF2 is my favorite. I went so far as started playing that in multiplayer mode. :) |
Tales of Destiny is nice. The company behind the game even made a remake of the game due to its popularity! Suikoden was nice as well, but too easy as a rpg. |
@16
I'd forgotten all about that title. I think I got stuck at one of the puzzle parts and never played it again but that was before I could look it up on the internet ;)
Anyone remember Brigadine? You raise an army of creatures and it was kinda like a strategy game in which you could also evolve you creatures? I just remembered that one literally a minute ago. |
I do have brigandine but its a ripped cd on a ripped PS1 :D Sorry, Ive looked about everywhere to get myself a copy of the original game and all I got was : Its almost impossible to find. |
for Lucid-Naz:
Eh, for Brigandine, read post 6, post 10 and post 17 :D lol |
Monster rancher and jade cocoon are really good ps1 RPG'S |
