Author | best faction to hunt? |
a always thought elf ruled but ive recently seen hunts that DES are best | This really depends on the creature and your combat level. For example at level 8, DE would be good against slow creatures. While wizards and knights would be good against high tier creatures.
https://www.lordswm.com/plstats_hunters.php?level=8&race=0 | I love elf,Reasons:
Any hunted creature is a favoured enemy.
Bowmen, druids. Very strong ranged.
Trees, awesome tank defence, entangle very important against fast troops and fliers.
Strong melee from forest keepers, unicorns.
Sprite allows hit and run tactic, almost as effective as Shrews.
Luck talents.
At lv 6 I loved rain of arrows, great vs 5 stacks. Imagine a co hunt, 10 stacks of enemies all hit by the rain ) | There is no always best, only best in certain situations.
Elf is great at doing a lot of damage quick....but the longer the battle takes the weaker they are.
Wizard is almost opposite, troops are fairly weak. So they must rely on spells and running with gargs....the longer the battle takes the stronger they are.
Dark Elf shrews rule, problems with casters and shooters.
Demon overall very good, gating can block shooters and gives lots of creatures to take retal.
Barbarian can deal huge damage and pushing creatures initiative back makes big difference.
Necromancer has many little things that are not that powerful but situational. Drain mana, infected strike, drain life. Shooters are not that much of a problem and neither are casters. Many other faction are better hunters though.
Knight crossbows can mow down many things, but they are similar to necros, generally good everywhere, but don't stand out anywhere.
So in general, it depends on what your hunting. | I personally disagree with the last two factions: Necros have many things that are not that powerful? in a way i agree... true, drain mana isn't helpful in a hunt where there aren't any casters, but imagine how helpful drain health can be.. say you are lvl 7 and have 11 vampires... vampires have drain health AND no retal.. if your fighting a ton of griffs, you can easily use spirit link on vamps and sit them in the corner once your bows have either ran out of shots or been hit.. set up spirit link with vamps in the beginning and basically you've already won... drain health will just keep bringing the vamps back to 11 while you keep getting more mana. *just an example, drain health is useful in many other situations as well.
also although not given much credit necro bows can be very powerful... my bows have dealt more damage than 27 orcs (had 81 bows) when i shot the full battle field and i didn't even have more than minimum arts, dealing almost double the orcs damage, and we attacked on the same troop.
Also, knights have the stunning ability which is almost as good as barbs stunning ability because it allows swords to attack without retaliation. Furthermore, as if swords aren't good enough tanks already, fort allows you to have like 50 of em at lvl 7.. then theres griffs which can be very helpful in mgs etc.. so basically i find every faction has there advantages.. | I would recommend elf. Especially at higher level, elf is definitely one of the best for hunt, especially when you are cooperating with someone else. You would enjoy it. | for TheMarsh:
Yes every faction has its advantages and disadvantages. But the question was which faction was best for hunting not MG quests, or pvp, or thieving.
In regards to necros I think many other factions are better at hunting most creatures. Necros can hold their own though, as long as you stay ahead of the power curve.
Knights I am not as familiar with, but I think they are generally good, perhaps the best general purpose faction, which makes them lack some of the clear advantages other factions have. | knights have the stunning ability which is almost as good as barbs stunning ability because it allows swords to attack without retaliation
I have to disagree with this. I'm not saying the swordsman stun ability is useless, but it is near useless in hunts. The stun ability probability depends your hp relative to the target, which in hunts means your hp is nothing. Barbarian hero stun ability works all the time, hits any target on the map, and doesn't require you sacrifice a stack.
Since this is turning into a discussion . . . | Topic moved from "Queries and help" to "General game forum". | Well, I think Knights at higher lvls are quite great in hunts. Especially against 2 stacks of strong melee units. Xbows can attack and ignore target defence.
Anyone who saw xbows deal 15 000 dmg knows what am I talking about ;) | Knights I am not as familiar with, but I think they are generally good, perhaps the best general purpose faction, which makes them lack some of the clear advantages other factions have.
Knights are the best in killing tier 6-7 troops, are the best support class with both Light and Dark magic and on top of that for almost all levels, they are also one of the best PvPers. However, they totally suck in defeating slow units, tier 1-3 or Genies/Senior Genies, and they are easily defeated in duels.
I think i said enough ;) | Dark Elf at level 8 are the best because they have shrews=) | Dark Elf at level 8 are the best because they have shrews=)
Shrews = free xp, they are killed in one hit :S | DE rules the hunting records on lvl 13-14 | wizards cos they have hunting bonus. | DE rules the hunting records on lvl 13-14
because the majority of people swap to DE at level 13-14 | though I'm a knight but I'd say elves,DE's and wizards rule here but knights are also very good for hunts.
No idea about other factions persists in my mind. | Each faction has its own advantage in hunts.
Elves: generally good against almost anything, requires a bit of preparation for some targets if one wants to use the hit-and-run tactics with Sprites.
Dark Elves: Shrews rocks against any low-initiative enemy (tier 1 creatures, Golems, etc.)
Knights: Crossbowmen are very good against high-tier large creatures (Giants, Sphynx warriors) because of their ability to ignore DEF; but the knight hero has to bless them first for maximum efficiency.
Demons: good at hit-and-run tactics with Cerberi and a good initiative, affects mostly slow targets (as Dark Elves)
Barbarians: the stunning blow from Barbarian hero can push back low initiative creatures into oblivion (zombies for example). Wolf Raiders are incredibly powerful, but frail.
Wizards: the wizard faction level tells it all - either you have it and rock in hunt, or you don't and get crushed. Wizards fare better against slow targets (movement and/or initiative wise) so they can escape them longer. They fare well against large creatures as well.
Necromancers: A skilled Necromancer can mirror a huge skeleton bowmen stack and shoot down enemy creatures while they protect the bowmen with a line of ghosts/apparitions resurrected as often as required. Works well on large creatures, the slower the better.
So, to each faction its hunt. Against a huge stack of Sprites, Barbarians would probably do well, while Knights would be better hunting down Hydras. |
