| You need troops to join any kind of combat. Throne tournament is not different. Maybe its a protection against raising secondary faction levels so easily. |

I am not sure how does it work exactly, because I was able to join as a knight. And all I had were farmers, bowmen, swordsmen, griffins and monks. And not the highest fort for my level. It seems that upgraded structures are not needed, tier 6,7 is not needed apparently. And not all those fort like structures. Basically I was able to join any combat as unupgraded level 7 with monks.
But more troops means more troops. Build something and you will see what was the important structure. :-) |

Crap, I built that.
So, it seems you only need up to tier 5. I played as DE for a while without witches, though I had fort and shrews. |
