only if you want the upgrade constructions early. if not you can level up and build the upgrades using in-game gold and resources.

Nope. Each upgraded construction has a cost (Gold and resources.) And an alternative cost (Diamonds.)

If you use Diamonds, you can get the upgrade at an earlier level, then if you wait to use gold and resources.
