| whats the purpose of these clans? are they worth joining? | The purpose is mainly to gather a group of players together. There are events, tournaments, enchanting/smithing discounts, and other benefits planned by different clans.
As for in-game functions there are only a few features such as being able to see clanmates online, PM to everyone in the clan, clanpage, clan chatroom, and being able to select your clan as a filter for battles. | | hmm, which clans offer tournaments? | You can look through the clans in the Clan forum:

Many clans have tournaments, but because tournaments with prizes require admin approval you should check with clan leaders for their status. | | And ya, you are only able to join any clans when you're level 3 or higher. |
