AuthorWhich Has Better Defense?
Hiya all,

Sorry, I'm pretty bad at maths, so gotta ask it here. :p

Let's say there are 2 stacks, A & B.

17 x Stack A with 12 Defense
3 x Stack B with 28 defense

If I can only bring 1 stack into battle, which stack can withstand a bigger damage from a hit before perishing?

Do I just go, [17 x 12 = 204] and [3 x 28 = 84], so Stack A can withstand more damage? That to me seems to be the case, but I have watch some battles and I noticed that most players prefer to take Stack B instead of Stack A, and that got me curious.

Thanks in advance.
It highly depends on the hit points of the unit in question. The amount of Defence affects the amount of damage that an attacking unit deals to it, but the ability to withstand higher damage is more hit point based.
the one with the highist stats
Hmm you did the correct math though mate =P

In my view, Stack A has more quantity, less quality, and vice versa for Stack B.

With more number of units in the stack, it has higher chance of lasting longer and more units means more higher range of damage for that type of unit (4 wolfhounds can deal [3-5] x 4 of damage, 1 can only deal 1 x [3-5]).

Inversely, Stack B should deal a lesser damage range but it will definitely outlast Stack A if it is attacked due to its high defense. So your question should be in line with who can stay longer in battle based on TWO different factors: Total HP and Defense.

Conclusion: it either has the ability to last longer through its Total HP, or last longer through the level of its Defense.
It totally doesnt depend on number of units in stack.

Lets say I attack you with a stack of 10 units that has 30 attack and 10 damage.
Stack B will suffer 110 damage.
Stack A will suffer 190 damage.

So which one of your hypothetical stacks has higher hitpoints? :-)
Opps... forgot very important stats.

Stack A has 30 HP each
Stack A has 90 HP each

So which is better for defensive duties? :)

Thanks in advance.
Stack A has 30 HP each
Stack
B has 90 HP each :p
Stack B will suffer 110 damage.
Stack A will suffer 190 damage.

You can do the math now. Stack B with high defence will die after 3 hits of 110 damage. Stack A due to its high HP will survive 8 hits of 190 HP done by my hypothetical stack. With other hypothetical stacks we may come to different outcome.

Lets try putting this in a real situation. What units are you thinking about and what you want to defend against. Also, you should think about attacking capabilities of units, you dont want to just stand there, right? :-)

Well, for some hunts, the hunt creatures stacks are insanely high. And only way to win those hunts are via the X-Bows. Since I can only bring 1 2x2 troop to act as wall, was thinking which of these 2 stacks (Griffins & Cavalry) should I bring. Leaving both behind is not really an option since I don't get more of the other units by leaving them behind.

They won't be doing any attacking. They'll just "Defend".

Thanks in advance.
12 defence + 30% def = 15.6
28 defence + 30% def = 36.4

My hypo stack 10 units, 10 damage, 40 attack.
Cavalry suffers 118 damage. Stack perishes after 2.288 attacks.
Griffins suffer 222 damage. Stack perishes after 2.297 attacks.

It seems they are quite the same, you can do the recount with other units too. Talents were not included(too lazy).
for Omega22:

Alrighty, thanks ! That helps a lot. Much appreciated. :)
