would someone please explain how initiative works because it doesn't work the way it seems like it should.
example:
Im an elf in a duel with another elf, i wear hunter stuff for init bonus, he wears normal stuff for attack and defense bonus. My bowmen and druids have init 10.7, his bowmen and druids have init 10.3, but they all go first and my bonus init gear was a complete waste of time and money. This happens all the time. Why do units with lower initiative go first? 0.4 isn't that big a difference but if it isn't enough to go before the slightly slower unit then what is the point? | This should help.
https://www.lordswm.com/forum_messages.php?tid=1832909 | so because of a 0-10% random deviation, bonus ititiative gear is worthless. that helps my understanding but it is a dumb rule. thanx | It is not worthless, statistically you will go first more often than they will if you have higher initiative. Also, as combat drags on, your units will get slightly more turns than their opponents.
The randomness prevents the combat from always playing out the same time (as well as settling which of two units with the same initiative gets to move first). For elves at your combat level, yes, the "elven bowmen coin-toss" tends mean the pace for the entire combat is set before either side moves, but that's just the way it is when you're depending on speed. |
