AuthorWeapon Enchant - Ignore Defense & Attack
Hiya all,

So basically, there are 2 types of weapon enchant - % elemental damage and % Ignore Defense.

Let's say it's 10%.

- Isn't dealing 10% damage the same as ignoring 10% of enemy's stack?

- If not, which one is better in terms of dealing more damage?

Thanks in advance.
For hunting and merc quest, possibly thieving elemental damage

ignore defense really shines in PvP where enemy has high defense
ignore 10% def give 10% more damage if a creature has 20 defence. IF a stack has 40 def it give you 4*5=20 more damage
10% Elemental damage is that - extra damage.

10% Ignore target defense means that your opponent's defense is reduced. For example, Defense 30 becomes Defense 27.

Extra Elemental Damage works in all combat situations: hunts, mercenary quests, etc. Only creatures with Elemental resistance (eg. Enchanted Gargoyles) get no extra damage from it, and it depends from the damage type.

Ignore Target Defense is pointless in most non-PvP combat situations, because base defense of neutral creatures (without a hero leader to boost them) is low. Even against Caravans, the effects are disputable. Yet, Ignore Target Defense is worth more than Elemental Damage in full arts battles, against high tier creatures (Dragons, Behemoths, Angels...) and against Mercenary Quest Monsters because these targets have have high defense.

As a rule of thumb, if your target has 20 more Defense than you have Attack, then Ignore Target Defense is better than Extra Elemental Damage.
10% elemental damage increase your damage output, which helps against all enemies, thought you would need to watch out for immunities and resistances, which could reduce that damage.

10% ignore allows you to reduce the Defence of the defending stack by 10%. So if the opposing stack have defence of 30, you bring it down to 27, which translates to about 15% more damage. If the stack has a defence of 40 (which some Knights' Monks and Guardians I have fought against do), that will low it to 36, which is about 20% more damage effectively.

So it's up to you.
I like more 10% elemental damage.

I made a sword with 10% ignore defence and now i regret that. No one play full BG.
As a rule of thumb, if your target has 20 more Defense than you have Attack, then Ignore Target Defense is better than Extra Elemental Damage.

Hmm.. 20 MORE than attack, or just 20 base defense?

Thanks in advance. :)
I believe that's the difference between an attacking stack's attack and the defending stack's defense.
ignore defence ignores the defence of the opponent, so you deal more damage, ignore attack ignores attack of the opponent, so you receive less damage from them
#8?

Serious? Hmm.. with the arts that most of us wear for stuff like ambushes, quests, etc, it would take an enemy stack to have like 60-70 Defense to have +20 MORE defense than my attack (!)

Hmmm... either something's not right, or I'm missing something... again. haha..
Quick example:

stack of creatures doing 100 damage per hit with 10 attack

defending creature has 20 defense

a regular hit will do:

(10-20) x 5% = a reduction of 50%, so the stack will do 50 damage

with a 10% elemental damage, the stack would do

50 x 110% = 55 damage.

with 10% armor reduction, the defenders armor is reduced to 18 and the formula becomes
(10-18) x 5% = 40% damage reduction, so the stack does 60 damage

if the defender started with 10 defense, then
no enchant = 100 damage
10% elemental enchant = 100 x 110% = 110 damage
10% armor ignore = 100 x 105% (only 1 armor point ignored) = 105 damage

ignore defense is an enchant that gets better as the opposing side gets more defense
#10

the exact value of the ignore defense enchant varies depending on the difference between attack and defense.

as I see it though, as a general rule, if the creature has 20 defense, then ignoring 10% of that is 2 points, or 10% damage reduction.

any creatures with less than 20 defense you're likely to see more results with an elemental enchant, anything more than 20, ignore defense is better
The formula is much more complicated than that. If you want a rule of thumb, the cutoff point is around 26. With 26 or better, I10 is good. With 25 or less 10% elemental is good. This will work for a majority of the cases.
