Im a dark elf with factin lvl 8 so i have 5+7*8=61 pierce
i want to know hou much damage can i do with a 203 damage fireball in 2 cases:
1.against a barbarian with 5 faction skill, no other rezistance
2.against a wizard with 6 skill in dark elf, no other rezistance
The right answers are: barbar 135 damage and wizard 166 damage, but i can't find how is this damage calculated. | Interesting question, though you didn't provide all the information needed to receive an answer =)
You forgot to mention, that Barbarian had also 7th level of DE.
So, you had 14 Spell Power and Basic Chaos magic. Thus, 203 damage worth empowered fireball (9+9*14=135; 135*1.5=202.5)
Case 1. The barbarian.
7th faction level of DE gives him 7 * 3% = 21% damage reduction. (i.e. multiplier = 1 - 0.21 = 0.79)
Barbarian's innate resistance = 5 + 5*7% = 40% = 0.4
Your piercing = 5 + 8*7% = 61% = 0.61
Total resistance = 0.4 * (1-0.61) = 0.156 (multiplier = 1 - 0.156 = 0.844)
So, the final damage will be: 202.5 * 0.844 * 0.79 = 135.0189
What does this all mean?
You cast a spell on barbarian with 40% resistance. I.e. 40% resisted, 60% pass through.
But your 61% piercing allows to 'reduce' his resistance by those 61%. I.e. only 39% of his innate resistance work (0.4*0.39=0.156), and the rest is pierced (0.4*0.61=0.244) - thus (0.6 + 0.244) = 0.844 damage pass through.
Funny enough, but you've dealt to barbarian as much damage using empowered spell - as you would deal to any other same character (with 7th DE level) using an ordinary spell =)
Case 2. The wizard.
6th faction level of DE gives him 6 * 3% = 18% damage reduction. 202.5 * 0.72 = 166.05 damage | Wizard: 203 -6*3%*203 = 203 - 36,54 = 166,46
damage - DE level * 3% * damage | tks a lot for nice information.
i see that DE faction skill cannot be reduce by DE pierce, nice thing to know
