AuthorNecromancers who Maximise Attack - A Query
For those Necromancers who Specialise in the Attack strength rather than "raise dead", how do skeleton (bowmen) rate as a melee force?

One of the key benefits of being a Necromancer is the bonus you get to your Skeleton (bowmen) stack(s). Because of this a Skeleton (bowmen) stack can easily be the largest stack in the game.

If a necromancer has a very strong Attack bonus, and considering a skeleton (bowmen) stack can be very large, can these factors make a large Skeleton (Bowmen) stack a dangerous melee force?

atk also is for ranged damage,and dont think skele is the best.. cross can do better damage than them
they make a decent melee force, but that's only when they run out of shots/being surrounded by enemies. otherwise the melee penalty and the 1-2 dmg isn't all that great.

they are better off shooting.
When they run out of shot, they make good bait....

I believe they do the most damage for necro troops, but then Necro troops aren't truly know for massive damage.
the best way to play as a necron in pvp IS to use atk build.

Have only 10-30 mana depending on your level.

Skellies do great damage--especially if someone on your team can bless them.

Magic Necro is fun to play too...
And they can hold their own in a PvP too. Just a different playing style and a bit harder to manage art and talents

Magic Necro has serious limitations. To do damage they can play only with mass Poison...many, many units are immune to poison. Plus, a caster can only cast so many times, troops = flimsy, not built for Def (especially true prior to Level 11).

I only play as a magic caster wizard now because 1. Wizard units have good Def + Minis so they can take a beating from melee and 2. Fireball

If Necro had Fireball, I would agree with you :) But having played as a magic casting necro with great arts at the time, I can tell you they aren't that good. Neither are mass poison DE builds.

I know there are limitations, but just as Magic necro has limited castings of spells, Might Necro has limited troops because they can't raise often and have terrible defence.

It's up to tactics as to how to manage and win. It's a much more complex way of winning, but it is a viable tactic, just extremely difficult to pull off
