| do i need a thief invation to get thief exp | | Yes, to get thief guild points you need a thief invite, however if an thief ambushes you can still recieve experience. | The answer is yes...you can't gain thief xp without being a thief lol.
You can gain Victim/Ambushed xp if a thief catches you travelling though as eviltitan mentioned.
Also, you must do an ambush to gain xp as a thief, and kill some things. You don't earn xp for doing nothing in this game.
