You know, I don’t really like the idea that switching off lights for an hour really “save” Earth. In fact, it is the dumbest idea I ever heard.
I myself conserve energy when I don’t use it. I switch off lights when I leave a room. I don’t turn the air-conditioner on the whole night. I use a mug to rinse my mouth when I brush my teeth (to avoid water wastage when the tap is running).
I mean, what’s the point of turning off lights just for one hour. What if I turn off the lights, but I leave my computer on overnight? What if I turn off the lights for that hour but I leave it on the rest of the night when I sleep? Why not preach to people to turn off lights EVERYTIME you don’t use them?
Normally, when a person goes to sleep at night, they should off the lights. At an average of 8 hours per night, all lights should be off. With the remaining of say 4 hours of “lighted” nights each day, we are talking about only turning off ONE hour a year. What kind of a message is that? That it is okay to support this “conservation programme” by switching off lights for 1 hour, and forget about it for the rest of the 364 nights in the year??
Pointless exercise, really. |
Lol indeed.
Also, so what if we keep our lights turned on? Is this act somehow going to make the Mother Earth angry and take revenge?
Since the Earth doesn't have emotions, doesn't matter what we do, it won't mind. We could burn the whole planet surface and it won't mind . . . |
Im supporting Earth Hour =) |
I believe the purpose is for "symbolic" actions. Not an effort to conserve energy directly.
What Kiz is doing... is the best of course. But unfortunately... not all people do that :( Sad, but true...
Sometimes, people need to be given an example to realize it or need a special moment to act.
Once I saw in Oprah show, a woman is shocked when she saw that everyday a polar bear has to swim 1 mile farther to hunt, because of the global warming.
After seeing that, she became aware and concern about global warming.
Hopefully, it will be the same with the "Earth Hour". |
Not supporting due to RL neccesities. I'm a pretty energy-saving person anyways :)
Gamewise, I'll miss 1 enrollment for supporting Earth Hour :P |
instead of using light in ur ceiling get a clamp on light for ur desk |
lol, earth hour, only if its in the middle of the night when im asleep
Else im definitely NOT going to turn the lights and all power off |
oh well. Guess nobody likes it. |
I'll miss 1 enrollment for supporting Earth Hour :P
LOL |
@ EROCS
they are absolutely right. it's like an "hour for helping the children in need". it's pointless and stupid. |
For all those that don't get it.
That 1 hour is a symbolic support for humans to save the planet, which is for the sake of humans. |
candlestick dinner during earth hour.. =) |
What I don't get is the purpose of this symbolism. Are we trying to show someone that we are actually doing something that helps save the planet? All the resources being used in this Earth Day campaign could have been better used elsewhere. |
It's a farce, it's for people, who want to calm their conscience and it's as much a symbol as throwing a toothpick to a drowning man, the only thing it shows is how little people really care about the environment.
The thing that really matters is education, once people notice on their own what to do, rather than needing constant encouragement, we're heading in the right direction. |
