Do you think that Lords of war and money is a geeky game. i think it is a fantastic game and really enjoy playing it however some of my friends take the mickey that i play it. do you think thats it is considered stereotypically geeky???

This is only a thread to see peoples views. just to clarify i am not insulting this game as i think its great and i dont want heavy criticism for making this topic. i would just like to know peoples views. Please dont close this topic or ban me.
oops title got cut off it is meant to say game at the end
Define what "geeky" means :)
Well it depends on what you see as geeky. Is playing games geeky is the same question ;)
Well just you no geeky

and is it like sad and obssessive and strange how u play in a fantasy world. do u think it is weird and obsessive to play all the time.

surely you must know what geeky means. its hard to define because its just "geeky" similar to boffin like i dont know surely u must understand what i mean by geek or geeky
geek = a person regarded as foolish, inept, or clumsy.
computer geek = a person dedicated to the computer related fields, socially inept.

geeky = adjective, derived from geek

for Elven_Lord:

Usually, geeks are person with pretty high IQ, but really shy in inter-human communications, trying to find a refuge in any fantasy world at hand. It is true that any strategy requires a certain dose of intelligence, but that doesn't imply a strategic person is socially inept. This game decreased the IQ required for combats strategies to increase a little bit the requirements for the economic strategies (in my own opinion, it failed here). So, "geeks" is not the appropriate word to define those who play this game.
i think this definition is what i was looking for

computer geek = a person dedicated to the computer related fields, socially inept.

btw im not accusing anyone of being a geek im just want to know what peoples thoughts are on this so please dont get annoyed
Meh... "Being geek" can mean anything from having a hotmail to hanging on challenge24 and solving programming questions. It all depends on who makes the definition.

For me personally, this game would be a "3" on a scale from 1 to 10. I put this in the same pile as playing chess or writing an e-mail. So, not very geeky in my oppinion. You do need some basic computerskills to use it however, so it's above 2.

Writing a script to the game (or even using a script) however, raises the geekyness factor a bit though, but that is not something related directly to the game itself.
But by being able to script things, you would become "geeky".
"This game decreased the IQ required for combats strategies to increase a little bit the requirements for the economic strategies"

This statement is quite far from the truth, since the need to calculate exactly what artifacts you need to equip to overcome a challenge makes the whole challenge far harder than doing the same with a given set of equipment. If you use too much gear you fail in economy, if you use too little you fail in battle. Additional parameters to take into account simply increase the complexity of any task at hand. Same reason why higher combat level battles are far more complex and demanding than lower level ones.

I agree with you.

If it was just a war game, I wouldn't consider it too geeky. But with the economics involved it has become geeky. And yes, I realize "geeky" depends on who defines it. But I believe the average person would consider the calculations in this game to be geeky.

Calculations:
1. The exact artifacts needed to overcome a battle that's also the cheapest.
2. Cheapest arts to use at minimum AP.
3. Whether something is worth repairing given some smith% and cost%.
^^ Hey, don't forget they have armorer and jewelcrafter too :p
So is the general idea that people think this game is "geeky" because you have to work out how to handle ur own finances and it is a strategy game not just in strategy of battle but also strategy of money lords of war and "money" so generally although it is fun to play it is now classed as stereotypically geeky by most.
the good thing about this game is that u play against humans, they think like u do , (not all of them think well) but at least they try, so it is good, better then playing against a computer, group battles specially everyone for oneself, r the best ones, playing EFO from level 5 above until level 7 was really great? why? it is a matter of strategy and diplomacy lol, u have to be diplomatic and a traitor, must know when u will have to attack ur temporary ally, and must combine between ur first beginning enemy, all is enemy of all, u make peace with one then attack him when he seems to be dangerous, make ur tactics, each step must be calculated for future, hide ur intentions, say i am with u then kill him from behind lol . i think this was really best battles .
I just fail to see from this discussion why geeky is a bad thing?!

From everyone's definition/concept of the word in this thread, it refers to some people that are somehow different from the average human ( that likes to socialize ). Somehow i never liked the idea of being "average" in most things... and i guess everyone wants to be a special person.

There are a lot of psychology theories out there referring to this thing and i guess it's out of the scope of such a thread forum to become so elaborate but you could go ahead and search google for stuff if interested :P A summary of some of the non-standard views on the subject would be the following sentence: " If person A prefers to spend more time on computer game B rather than go out and spend time with his friend C, then it's clear that for person A the computer game B offers more to him than his friend C ". The above sentence is far more complex than it looks at first sight and definitely should yield a lot of discussion :) but enough with my ramblings here!
A geek, as I know, is someone very knowlegdable and who loves a particular thing. I.e. a computer geek, is very good with computers and computes all the time. A car geek is someone who knows cars backwards and likes nothing more than having his hands on car parts or driving...
Well...I have to say I never tell my friends I play this...ok, I say I'm playing this nerdy RPG, but I don't tell them I'm like high level...
I'm pretty smart, but I have a social life, so by your guys definition I'm not a geek. I just like fantasy worlds...Good ones anyway.

Also, the game is good geeky nerdy or not.

The title, now that right there, that is GEEKY. I wouldn't mind a title change. :P
so are u saying that u think lords wm is basically a "nerdy RPG"
that is one way of putting it
i dont think that just because you play lords means you are unsociable or have no friends so i guess "geeky" is the wrong word and i think that nerdy suits it better
Arcade games are not geeky, but any strategy/rpg can be called geeky.
I would not play a game not geeky enough for my taste, although I am called a very social person ;-)
so do u think that evry RPG/strategy game is geeky???
This topic is long since last update and considered obsolete for further discussions.
