AuthorWhich diamond upgrades are worth it?
I was just looking at another thread and thought this could be a good topic for discussion. So what do you think?

As a wizard, I think the gremlins are useless so I have yet to upgrade them. The enchanted gargoyles are great and if you have the money I would recommend getting them at lvl 6. Modern golems, I don't know. I'm leaning toward not getting them, but perhaps higher lvl wizards can comment on whether they are worth it or not. Lorekeepers are just a fun unit to play with, so I might have to get them early.

What about the other factions? Which units are great to upgrade early with diamonds?
cerberi are great for demons;)
No doubt Shrew are dark elf first chice to upgrade...its awesome...especially for theif...
Shrews and Elite Forest Keepers are definately worth it. :-)
Grandmaster bowmen, tier 3 diamond upgrade will get you through the lvl 9 swamp like an airboat
AS far as diamond upgrades go... I would think that EFK and Shrews are the best. However, as far as _uses_ for diamonds go... I would get the Hunter's Guild Membership. Hunting 50% more often for a month would be a great boost that you cannot get nearly as much with gold :) As you could, for example, your upgrades.
Well for wizard Enchanted Gargoyles is by far the most important upgrade to get with diamonds, it makes levels 6->8 a lot easier and in general they are the backbone of the army throughout the game. They got good speed, flyers with a lot of hit points and defense, and with proper mini artifacts they make sure you survive long enough to empty all mana on opponent's head.
Modern golems are far from essential though they are useful because they bring even more hit points in the picture. Their damage is quite nice but they are still very slow which means in most cases they won't be able to deliver more than 1-2 hits. It definitely won't be a huge boost at level 9 unless you plan to pvp extensively.
Lorekeepers seem very interesting, they probably signify the landmark moment in the game where wizards can do heavy melee damage. The hp upgrade compared to magi is quite needed ( at my current level i feel magi's low hp kinda makes them unplayable ) and the ability to chastise for +9 attack on a growing stack of genies + the new stack of sphynx seems to offer good potential for some heavy melee damage. But still can't say much before i try them ... soon!


Regarding other factions, it seems that for everyone ( except maybe necromancers which have their skeleton bowman as backbone ) the tier 2 creature is the base of the army and it's worth the diamond upgrade most ( considering you also get it 2 levels earlier than normal )
I would get the Hunter's Guild Membership.
i also would buy the non diamond hunter license, if only i still can hunt many monsters. the problem is the mosters are too tough now and what i do is pass by. just make sure you still can do a lot of hunts when you buy it
I'd say DE shrews because their upgrade is absolutely worth it.
EFK for elves aren't bad either.
Enchanted gargoyles? I think perhaps you can live without it fairly easily but I wouldn't know for sure.
Umm cerberi are a good upgrade from wolfhounds as well.
Wolf raiders aren't bad either (love their triple strike)
X bowmen... perhaps.
Hmm... infected zombies are extremely useful in monster mercenary quests or creatures with high stats.
There's quite a few worthwhile diamond purchases available in my opinion.
Set_Sveta's vampire counts will let me wanna getting high level

EFKS and GM bowmen ..
Modern Golems and Lorekeepers ..

I just wanted to say, this was not a query or a help topic. This was meant to be a discussion topic and that's why I put it in the General Game Forum, which is what I thought the GGF was meant for.

For those non wizards that don't think enchanted gargoyles are worth it. The wizard faction is all about defense and hps. We need to survive in order to get rid of all that mana. At combat lvl 7 I had 54 gargoyles. Enchanted gargoyles have an extra +5 hps. So that is 270 more hps we have at lvl 7. But not only that the initiative and speed is increased by 1, which makes us better able to fly away from enemy units.
i think specre and vampire counts for necro...
