A question about rule 3.13.6. and the possible consequences of disobeying it
The above mentioned rule says:
3.13.6. Additional characters are not allowed to buy, trade or exchange rare set artifacts and Thieves' Guild invitations(TGIs).
Well, I have a secondary character, a wizard that is just about reaching combat level 8. That character has over 600k worth in gold, mini arts and elements. I was planning switching to dark elf and buying a TGI on levelling up.
In my opinion thieving is the only/most fun thing to do at level 8+. But now for my secondary character to become a thief would cost me at least 80EUR. This "donation" is worth two months of rent in the student hostel that I live in. So I definitely won't pay...
While the very first paragraph of the games "About" page states:
It is an non-commercial project, it is a free online service from gamers, for gamers.
I don't see any reasonable cause for this decision either. I am _not_ questioning the fact that maintaining this great game costs a lot of money for the administration, but I don't think that my extra char being a thief would cause more server load or cost more bandwidth than the same character being a mercenary or a hunter.
Or do they think that by being a thief my secondary character would support my main one?
By the way:
This rule didn't exist when I started that character. And according to rule 1.2. I am allowed to break rule 3.13.6. Because 1.2. says:
... When any critical addendum and/or changes are made, the Administration will post an additional notification at the game forum.
And we haven't been notified yet. Arctic's notification didn't cover this rule. A player called Vhailor's post was even deleted for including this rule! See here:
https://www.lordswm.com/forum_messages.php?tid=1844886&page=0#83711
So according to the rules, rule 3.16.6. is not even a valid rule yet.
My question:
If my secondary character happens to buy a TGI at the market, what will happen? Will it be blocked? And my primary character that I'm posting this stuff with. Will it be blocked too? Or penalized? Has anybody committed this "terrible crime" yet?
ps to moderators:
I would like to state that I have read and understood the local forum rules and I think that my post complies with them. My post's topic is of general interest and is strictly related to the game.
All the same, you can delete my post, ban me and lock this topic (at your own discretion, because I haven't broken _any_ rules yet) if that's your heart's greatest wish. But I would be much happier with an answer. | since your thread is titled QUESTION about rule 3.13.6... doesnt it stand to reason that it should go in 'Queries and Help' Query is synonymous with Question and your question is really looking for an admin's opinion. anything we average players say 'doesn't go' as far as rules are concerned.
but if you want an average player's opinion here you go:
when i read that rule i stopped playing my multi char. did i think the rule was unfair? not at all. i can live with using my primary character to do thief battles and sending artifacts to smith to be repaired. i can understand why they wouldn't want multichars to be able to do those things. you don't need a secondary character to try thief battles as another faction. just switch your faction. and if you really really want a secondary character that can do thief battles save up your money until you can afford it. it irks me when i come across players breaking rules. | I tink it's becos they dun want farmers to get the TGI from multi for profiting.(TGI is a premium item tat costs alot of gold)
maybe?? | I tink it's becos they dun want farmers to get the TGI from multi for profiting.(TGI is a premium item tat costs alot of gold)
maybe??
But that was already forbidden, in the original rules.
All transfers between multi and main are illegal, just like they always have been.
So do you think that double-forbidding something is more effective against cheaters than simple forbidding? Lol... | The thread is fine to be in this forum, since it serves as a notification of rule changes (even if Admins didn't notify players of it - for whatever reason)
On subject of deleted post - it was made (and deleted) _before_ rule 3.13.6 came to be here, and was made in relation to .ru server - and all .ru stuff is discussed in OGF (just like .com stuff on .ru isn't discussed in GGF)
If my secondary character happens to buy a TGI at the market, what will happen? Will it be blocked? And my primary character that I'm posting this stuff with. Will it be blocked too? Or penalized? Has anybody committed this "terrible crime" yet?
No idea what will happen. Since punishment isn't specified, the only way to find out is have someone break the rules, reported in CaA and punished. But at a guess - it's definetly block for alt, possibly penalti for main. Keep in mind that my guess is as good as anyone's. | for Shebali:
Ok, forgive me for the accusation, I wasn't aware that the rule changes were added in more than one step.
As for my extra char, I think I will follow xinj's way and stop playing it. At least for a while. The use of secondary characters is too restricted now, it's not worth the trouble.
I think the problem is that I was not using my extra char as intended (only to explore different factions). But wizards are sooo powerful in hunts and mercenary quest, it was too tempting... I enjoyed playing my multi just as much as my main.
for xinj:
it irks me when i come across players breaking rules.
Me too. As far as I know, I haven't broken one either. But not all new rules follow the last statement of the rules page:
Please note that these rules weren't created to limit the game process. On the contrary, they were created to improve the game and...
I think this rule hinders honest players more than cheaters.
And I think I'm not the only one to know that many real cheaters got away with their deeds unpunished because of the lack of exact rules. And even as I'm writing this, they are making a good profit using their dishonestly gained skills, or buying up arts and resources with automated scripts.
So I think "cheating" and "breaking the rules" mean two completely different things, and anyone with a sense of morality can tell the difference.
By the way, I think the new rules will not help solving this server's biggest problem: the lack of players. It won't attract new players but it will distract some old ones. | I think this rule hinders honest players more than cheaters.
I tend to agree :|
And even as I'm writing this, they are [...] buying up arts and resources with automated scripts.
Now that's quite an accusation. You shouldn't say things like that without proof - and I highly doubt anyone's using scripts here, simply because it's not required. | Well, it's not my duty to prove it. Nor do I have the "tools" for it.
But why do you think this one was added?
2.2. ... In particular, automatic and semi-automatic scripts referring to the database or running game mechanisms are forbidden.
And a new one:
3.25.1. It is forbidden to post links to any programs and scripts except those by LazyGreg, xo4yxa, Silentio and Maxter. Beware of forgery.
Maybe the admins think there is some truth in my "accusations"? (Which I don't even consider to be accusations as I didn't post the name/names.)
Fact is when the AP rule started (which is a rule I happen to like:), I was unable to buy a defender shield in five consecutive workshifts when I gave up trying.
Slow connection - one would say. Well, I'm using the university backbone network through a 10/100 Megabit connection, with the fastest browser available (Opera, much faster than Firefox but unfortunately a bit unstable), and a pretty OK computer.
Then later the same thing happened with some resources. Either I'm pretty unlucky, or someone was cheating.
Another fact is that an automated shopping machine is even easier to write in Greasemonkey than the above mentioned very good and legitimate scripts.
Enrolling is a different problem though, breaking the captcha is harder. But I'm not sure at all that the captcha cannot be retrieved through reverse engineering the url of its image or some packet sniffing. | I don't know why I am the only one ever saying this... but I have never, EVER, had a problem buying on the map. It is all a matter of timing. A slow connection could be a problem; but rarely do resources sell out in under two minutes. That is more than enough time to load the page.
Defender shields, on the other hand, do sell out in under two minutes... but not so quickly that most people wouldn't be able to get them. On multiple occasions I have purchased defender shields on the map with no problem.
Another fact is that an automated shopping machine is even easier to write in Greasemonkey than the above mentioned very good and legitimate scripts.
Detecting the use of such a script would be relatively easy. Transfers are logged for a reason, with the exact time of purchase. If there is activity consistent with a possible script the admins would be very likely to look into it if that person is reported. You can find out who these people are by looking at the transfer logs of those selling on the market.
I would also imagine there is a way to detect unnatural activity from a player within the game. | Allright, maybe acusation was a poor choice of words. My apologies.
2.2, 3.25.1. rules are there for a reason, true. One of them is precaution. Because, all that's not forbiden is allowed, no? ;)
Another is that there were cases of 'fishing' passwords from newbies (like, enter chaname and pass and get 100k on your acc) There was a case of using a bot to enroll( on .ru) but those using it were found out and got penalty (block, mostly)
I never had a problem buying anything, from res to artifacts (exept perhaps mercury in days of crysis and morale rings in days of events) In my expirience, it's possible to buy anything - though sometimes it takes several tries to 'click out' the item. (And def. shields I usually buy 2-3 at a time, because of their low durability)
Having another facility producing def. shields would help - though the traders would disagree of course :) As it is - market is always there for you. | OK, thanks for your information.
Maybe I'm just a bit too paranoid and lacking luck. (Happens in my real life a lot...) | Maybe I'm just a bit too paranoid and lacking luck.
I can see that being a factor ;p I have arrived at a location just moments too late or forgotten to keep track of the time. In those cases though I just buy from the market. The markup is not that big unless I'm buying in bulk. | i have tried several times to buy the defender shield at the facility 0.97 ready(refreshing continuously the page). Impossible. So i bought at market adding 300 gold more. | Continuously refreshing is the mistake you are making. When you continuously refresh it wont update properly and will usually take longer. If you just wait until the time changes and enter you would have a better chance. Or don't refresh constantly.
Also the .97 is how many Defender Shields there are in the facility. That is added to the production amount of the current shift. This happens because they require multiple hours and resources for each one, and if there isn't an even number created they carry over; depicted as a fraction of one unit. Of course, because it is an incomplete unit, you cannot buy it. The point at which the facility is restocked is indicated by the end of the workshift.
For example, if it says "Workshift ends at 13:00" than the facility will be restocked at that point; server time. | As for my extra char, I think I will follow xinj's way and stop playing it. At least for a while. The use of secondary characters is too restricted now, it's not worth the trouble.
Words of wisdom, my friend. I never understood why people run into this secondary character thing. Just switch faction with your main, and be done with it. | Well, as I don't think I will get a better answer than #5, and the discussion has become quite off-topic, I'm closing this thread.
Bye bye extra chars. | closed by gem85 (2009-01-18 17:05:04) |
