Author | Are wizards really underpowered and unbalanced? |
Before I got to level 3 I could at least hold my own against other races... Necs, Demos, Elves and Barbs were the hardest, but at least it was possible to defeat them. After level 3 it is simply impossible to defeat all these same races. I have no artifacts and I only fight people who have none as well, but even when I did try using artifacts against people who didn't have them, I still lost. It looks like the scale is heavily tipped against wizards in battle. The initiative is horrible. The elf gets to move 2-3 times in the row, while I can just sit there and watch my units getting slaughtered. The golems, which I get at level 3 are heavily underpowered. Not only are they extremely slow, with horrible initiative, they are not any better than T1 zombies or forest keepers. Their anti magic ability is completely useless since the enemy is not using magic and doesn't even need to use it do easily defeat me.
What is wrong here? Is it me? Is it because I cannot come up with a good strategy, or is it that the wizards are simply too weak till they get to level 5? | Wizards troops are weak but make up for it with their mini arts
Also wizards focus on magic from the hero to deal damage, many factions do not have any resistance against magic and therefore make it ideal for wizards in combat. | But these mini arts... they only become accessible at level 5 right?? | wizards are most poweres on lowlevels. So, that is your gold days=) | lvl 3 is when you get mini arts | Wizards are very powerful race (maybe even the most powerful).
The only think you need is a high Wizard level (not Combat level).
A high level Wizard's hero deals 90% of damage, not your army, so mini-arts isn't very important (only to survive longer).
I mean that Wizard faction level is much more important than mini-arts or Combat level.
Ibex, you are only level 1 Wizard, so you are very weak Wizard.
Other races doesn't depend so much on faction level as Wizards do (Knights also need high faction level, but they can be good fighters even having low faction level).
Low faction level Wizards are the weakest players, but high faction level Wizards are the best players. | Correction:
The only thing you need is a high Wizard level (not Combat level). | As DarkAssault said, Wizards generally focus on the hero to deal damage. If you watch Kusika fight, he mainly uses the enchanted gargoyles to prolong the battle to allow the hero to deal massive damage. Especially in hunts.
I admit at low levels Wizards aren't too great because the spells are weak but after a while you get stronger spells and it gets easier.
I'm speaking from observation and not experience so I might be off though... | Hello,
1)Wizards are weak at lvl 3-4 cause the strongest unit is golems(does the most dmg) but its very slow and low init... You will have to try to trick the opponent with yr garg or gremlins to attack those instead of yr golems...
2)Generally wizards are very strong at pve(hunts and mercenary quests),maybe the strongest, cause of the extra spell dmg they do.At pvp(vsplayers) wizards are strong but not the strongest;u will have to play very good and be very careful with every move u make...
3)Wizards never have enough money, the need to make new mini-arts every there racial or combat lvl levels up. For example at lvl8 u need about 700k gold to make good mini-arts! With the new ap rule wizards will not be able to create even the basic mini-arts for there troops
4)I love my wizard | Yeah, that is what I noticed. I don't even have remotely enough gold to buy mini arts. | 4th level Wizards are horrible, sorry. Posted about it a couple of months ago.
Luckily, 4th combat level doesn't use AP. Just fight as often as possible- PVP, Hunt, Hunt Assist, whatever. You gain XP for losing, and just try to get to level 5 as quickly as you can.
At level 5, you get Magic Arrow, you get Magi, you get a Talent for +1 Spell Power or Knowledge, you should have gained just enough money to start putting on single mini-artifacts (they're not very expensive for small groups, like Magi and Golems). A level 5 Wizard can hold his own in PVP, and more than hold his own on shared hunts.
Level 4 is just a cross you have to bear. | I was fine through level 4 but at level 5 I had a prob with elves till I got mini arts for my magi. Wizards are tricky to play because of the slowness of golems but if played properly are still tough because of the hit points that gargs have.
The trick at 3rd level (and after) is to ignore gremlins because they are all but useless. Split ur gargs into a lot of stacks of 1 and one big stack. use the 1 stacks to eat the retal before ur golems attack. Then as ur 1 stacks die the big stack gets enraged. At the end game u have a lot of enraged gargs with a lot of hit points for a tier 2 unit.
Like every faction, its learning the strategy that takes advantage of ur units strengths. |
