Author | Tactics for Knights |
i only just started playing recently, but since i have had help from many people on the forum, i thought i might as well do my part. These are some of the tactics that i have gathered, observed thus far.
Please feel free for the more experienced players to place in your inputs.
Level 1
At this point in time, things are fairly straightforward. Get employed as often as possible, hunt as much as possible. This will help get your racial skill up high as well as your hunter skill up.
Although it will be tempting to duel and level up fast, i think it might be useful to attempt to keep your racial skill the same level as your current level. this will help you immensely when you reach lvl 3 and can afford to buy your training chambers.
Similarly, SAVE UP. artifacts for use at this level is not really worth while. You will receive a hunter's broadsword after your 1st hunt. equip it to satisfy the game requirements, then unequip it. It can help you get the completed set faster.
For your troops, i suggest maxing out your bowman. Bowman's are really strong during the first 2 levels.
Level 2
Pretty much what you would in level 1. troops managements are pretty the same. Max out bows before picking farmers. Saving up is very important here. you would want to reap the benefits of your training chambers and racial skill point immediately after you reach level 3. This will also help you to win alot of duels at this level.
Remember, you need 3500 gold(+wood and ore) + 800 gold(+wood) for training chambers and barracks for swordsman.
You can get these resources through hunts, though quite rarely, or you can trade for it in the market place. If you are trading for it, you probably need around 5000gold or so to afford both these buildings once you reach lvl 3. It quite alot of $ at this point in time, so remember to save up.
Level 3
At this level, knights are probably one of the strongest heroes. swordsman is one of the strongest level 2 unit in the game imo. With this being said, do remember to maximise your racial skill points as much as possible.
Your army picks will also now be a little more difficult. you can either max out bow or swords(i would recommend swords) as bowman will always be the initial target of almost everything. i would also suggest having 3 farmers or so in your army at least.
DUELS
i would not be touching on group battles as i think i kinda suck at them, and too much of it is spoiled by afkers.
i would think combat tactics for level 1 and 2, 3 and 4, 5 and 6 are pretty similar as only at odd levels do you get a higher tier creature.
General Duel Notes
Always, Always check out the profile of your opponent before deciding whether or not to fight. you will need to know his/her army built up to ensure you use a proper and useful strategy in combat.
Heros are best used to take down either range, or straggler units(stacks with 1 to 2 troops used to take away retal ability)
Level 1 and 2
Against Elves
Forest Keepers(fk) are a big pain in the ass. i would suggest taking them down 1st. However, if they choose to split their sprites into small numbers, do not hesitate to volley them. for those of you who do not know how to volley, there is a button that looks like a helmet next to the wait and defend button. click on it and you will see a 3by3 square. Everything within that square will take damage. so be careful not to volley your own units or ally.
Use you farmer as meat shields. always use it to defend your bowman. box in your bowman with them. this will usually provide you with another turn to use your range attack.
Against Barbarian
Same thing, box in your units, aim for the wolf riders 1st.
Against Wizards
Wizards are a pain in the ass. their magic fist really really hurts in the early game, especially if they have 20 mana or more. remember, one magic fist cost 5 mana. i usually lose to them, so i tend to avoid them.
(some useful strategy will be nice)
A | ... theres a limit to length of post. i lost half of what i have written. will update it when i have the time. | nice post, i'll wait for the updates. | Updates
Against Dark Elves
Boxing in your bowman here again is suppose to becomes very important. however, due to the earthen spike spell, i would suggest having your bowman split into 2 stacks at each corner, with farmers also split into only 2 stacks covering the immediate front of the bowman. Rogues have alot more initiative than your units and when they hit, it hurts. focus your bowman on them. bandits might be range, but they only have 5 shots. so just endure their shots.
Note: Earthen spikes costs 9 mana.
Against Demons
Boxing in again here is impt due to gating. always aim for the gated unit first. they would most likely choose a gating point as close to your bowman as possible. bowman fire for the 1st two rounds should be focused on their demons.
Against Knights
Here, farmers are very impt. their job is to move as fast as possible to adjacent squares next to their bowman. this will prevent them from using their range. do not split into too many stacks as a single volley can destroy your army. your heros should be focused on taking down their farmers if they were to come too close to your bow. you bow should be focused on their bow. here , artifacts and initiative will most likely win the game though.
level 3-4(will update again) | Note: Earthen spikes costs 9 mana.
Edit : Earthen Spikes costs 5 mana. | KZhang
I would like to ask what your strategy is for maximizing the Swordsmen's Rage?
I typically look to sacrifice 4 stacks of 1 farmer for the +4 attack on my Swords and it works pretty darn well. That's a lot more damage from my Sword's stack. | yea. the farmer stack tactic is very useful.
eh.. maximising rage? sacrifice my farmers. i'm not beyond volleying them with my archers to get my swordsman rage up. haven really tried that before though. always wanted to but never really had a chance to or need to.
the bad thing abt one stack of 4 farmers is they die too easily in mirror and against dark elves. (where rage will win or lose the game). but that tactic can be quite useful against elves, demons and wizards.
sorry. raise costs 9 mana. my bad.
disclaimer: i aint a pro. just someone hoping to get there someday perhaps. and the purpose of the thread is to get more people to post their strategies so that everyone who can play knight benefits. =) | strategy : 10xTamed minotaurs, 12xRogues, 14xGhost, 20xswordsmen, 10xGolem, 15xwolfhound, 20xWolf rider, and 22xForest keepers....
if they are is my Enemy.. then who may i kill First in combat lv 4 team battle? | honestly, i have no idea. probably pray that my teammates do. its kinda weird though. dark elf + knights + mages + demons + barbarians + fks?
i prob go for the rogues or wolf riders 1st though.
then again, depending on whether you're hoping to win or maxmise your skill point. winning isnt always good.
losing many close battles will put you much stronger than opponents at your current combat level since your racial skill point will be much higher. | From my experience, levels 4 and 5 have one good thing going for knights: the swordsmen are rarely the first choice for a target. Enemies will go for your bowmen, griffins, and all the other seemingly more dangerous units from your teammates before they turn to the swordsmem, mainly because of their defense values I guess. So it's quite probable that your enemies will waste troops dealing with other units, leaving you with a pretty reasonable stack of swordsmen to do the cleaning up. Of course this depends solely on how your enemies play, and I have noticed that on level 6, they tend to take swordsmen more seriously (aka dumping magic on them). | Just remember when u on lv 4-5, when u meet with elf or barb... split ur bowmen into 3-4 stacks to prevent the focus attack on ur bowmen.
Don't split ur swordman and use the farmes or recruit to be damage absorber.
Griffin just will be the flying thing that can buzzing around and cause trouble, usualy they die first :) | griffs are really good, make sure u don't charge them in, even if it is tempting, in duels, wait for ur swords to catch up, they're powerful, but slow. so u need griffs protection. tehm dy8ing too quick is not good for u either because high initiative troops can kill ur swords slowly | for level 3 and 4
against elves, the usual tactics will be to split your bowmen into stacks of 4-5 of 4-5 each
however, when elves also split their stack of elven bowmen into stacks of 3 3 2 2, this tactic can fail miserably.
are there any tactics to counter this? | *siting here and read those tactic :) | i had a hunt against 350 goblins just now. being greedy and hoping to get on the list of top hunters, i took them on myself and got pawned.

heres the combat log. what could i have done better? | 15,
One thing you could have done was distract the upper goblins with small stacks of farmers. The goblins are stupid and what would have spent lots of time attacking the farmers. You could have finished the lower goblins, hopefully, by that time. | I'd say to few arts.
You had only 6 att, 5 def and 1 moral
So you had no amulett an nor rings.
The player who leads the Top Hunters in Knights/Lvl 4/Goblins has 5 att, 12 def 3 moral and 1 luck.
In most hunts you don't need any arts, but if you want to beat they best then there is simply no way without them. |
