the problem :-
when hunting, you often dont REALLY know what you are going to face. 500 spawns may be quite easy, or may be horrifically difficult. if they are split in 2 stacks, no problem, if they are split in 5, u have no mana, and they will spread their hits and totally own you. 2 completely different enemies, effectively. even moreso the case with pack attack units - i would rather fight a total of 150 of them in 2 stacks as opposed to 100 in 5 stacks. entirely different propositions in each case. so. going into these battles, u have no idea whether you should take arts or not, or if you should get assistance, or not. afaik, there is no way of predicting how the stacks will split, as it stands.
the solution :-
well, the easiest way would be to simply say in the hunt window "you smell 100 lizard cubs hunting in 2 packs blah blah" or words to a similar effect.
some people may like the fact you never quite know what you are going against... every1 has their own goals in this game, some people try to stay low EXP and get skill levels up, some EXP rush to get to the better units, some just wanna be rich and sit on 500K gold. for me, my main yardstick of success is my win / loss ratio. i know it is easy to skew it, by never playing in player battles, and only hunting very easy enemies. but i still like to try keep my win ratio up, without resorting to these tactics. having no idea what you are to face in battle obviously hurts my ability to do this, and the result is i have to overcompensate - always taking assists when the battle is in doubt, or wasting valuable item dur.
just a thought. spun out to be novel. :p | Yes it would be nice information to know before battle.
In my experience, many of those red ! mark hunts with above record number of creatures tend to come in 2-3 big stacks. If it's red or yellow then they tend to split to 4-5 stacks more often. | Actually I prefer the in smaller stacks =) Since I have no mana (yet) I prefer to get hit twice by a stack of 100 then once by a stack of 200. Still it's not a bad suggestion =)But I kinda like the surprise effect | think it's normal,if u know how much stacks enemy have,u will easilly beat previous hunter recs,so it's be not so good to playas, who beat them before | i prefer NO additional information on that :)
i dont want top hunter record cant be changed easily :) you see, every hunter try his best to break the record in order to keep his name in the list.
no point that other can make a new record without much trouble and some luck | thats the thing tho.
at the moment, getting a record is 70% about luck. if you are lucky enough to have the enemy split in only 2 stacks, then u have a MUCH easier battle than other people...
however, if you KNOW the number of enemy stacks, it will make it easier to judge with game knowledge what exactly you need to break them. records will be forced upwards, but beating them will not rely on the luck of the split anymore - as every1 will have equal knowledge of the stacks, it will rely on being able to push the limit as high as possible. i.e. it will rely on skill / strat over luck alone, as it is now.
i dont begrudge all luck in hunting. randoms effects like morale, critical damage, luck, and even the placement of the rocks on the terrain can all have a real impact upon the battle. but none of these are anywhere near as unbalancing as the number of stacks the enemy are split into. a hunt is often decided before you click the hunt button... regardless of arts taken, some battles can swing entirely on the number of enemy stacks. i think that skews the results. |
