Author | Early game leveling: Faster vs Better |
I'm not sure this should be in this section of the forum, so the moderators can move this if they want.
I have noticed that several if not most of the new players are obsessed with "leveling fast".
For the record: the LAST thing you want to do while you are Combat Level 1 or 2, is level FAST.
In other words: AFTER you have your first duel victory vs another player....DO NOT FIGHT ANOTHER PLAYER TILL YOU REACH LEVEL Combat Level 3!!!!! (sorry for the capital letters, needed to stress that point)
WHY is leveling FAST a bad thing? I'll explain.
A Combat Level 2 knight who went for experience, experience, experience and reached 2nd level quickly, will have a WEAKER hero and army then a Combat Level 2 knight who took his/her time getting from level 1 to 2.
In detail: the "quick" level 2 knight will have mostly fought players to get their experience, probably earning them some skill points, but (probably)not enough for a full Knight Faction level. They will likely also have ignored Hunts to a degree, so their Hunter level will probably also be less then 1.
The "slow" level 2 knight will have IGNORED the player battles completely, in favor of the 15 to 20 minute spawn rates for monsters on the map.
By the time "slow" will have the 1500 experience points from Hunting, his Faction and Hunter Level will both be AT LEAST 1st level.(if not higher)
Faction level 1 adds +1 defense to that factions creatures directly. While the Hunter level 1 will add +1 attack skill to your Hero (and this to your creatures)
As you can see, the "Slow" Knight has actually got +1 attack skill and +1 defense skill MORE compared to the "quick" knight.
The fact the map spawn rate of monsters is 15 to 20 minutes at Combat Level 1 and 2 vs the 40 to 60 minutes at Combat Level 3 is WHY you want to take things as slowly as you CAN at those 2 levels.
Faction and Guild levels are a VERY, VERY important part of this game, MUCH more important then just your Combat Level.
Your Faction level will let Necromancer and Knights field bigger and stronger armies.
Elves will critical hit "favored enemies" more often
Demons will gate in bigger stacks
Dark Elves will do more damage with their spells
Barbarian units will be even more resistant to spells
and Wizards can unlock better equipment for their creatures.
and the above is not even counting the direct benefits of Faction level to your creatures.
To summarize:
IF YOU ARE A COMBAT LEVEL 1 OR 2 PLAYER: THEN ONLY HUNT FOR EXPERIENCE.
You will have a MUCH stronger character/army if you have the patience for it. |
this was very helpful. Thanks |
Yeah, me too. I discovered too late the importance of faction levels.
The problem is that at high level, faction level is a barrier preventing you from changing faction more than any resource and money issue. If you turn Elf at level 5, you'll have weak chances to hit favored enemies; Knight's training chambers will have nearly no effect, and so on. Basically, you are stuck.
Becoming Barbarian and Dark Elf at high level is the only exception, because their faction levels have little importance in the game.
If I was to start again, perhaps I'd take my time to raise faction levels in each and every faction before reaching level 5 - the level where you have to spend a fortune to get level 3 troops, level 1 troops upgrade, and mage guild. Not only it would help changing faction later if need be, but it would also give decent damage protection against every faction you have faction levels in. 3*level% damage reduction is not something to ignore; in a Duel, a player able to get 6% or 9% less damage from his opponent is almost guaranteed to win.
Remember people, changing faction at low level is cheap and easy. Beyond level 4, forget about it. |
Laffopuritain, I'm glad my advice is actually being read. I just hope other players see this info before it's too late to benefit(short of starting a new account) |
dark elf do more magic damage? apparently only the skill bonus helps, i dont see the extra magic damage XD |
Dark elves have a unique ability to inflict extra damage with magic to creatures that have magic shield, and even pierce through magic proof and immunity. Damage dealt depends on hero's Dark elf skill level.
Rate of piercing through magic resistances and immunity: 10%+8%*Dark elf skill level.
Lifted from the "Piercing Magic" faction ability description for Dark Elves in the "Unique Racial Abilies" section of the "About the Game" page. |
Moreover, if you want to become a really powerful hero, hunt only "halves" |
i knew the faction lv long ago :)
i train my faction lv hard :) |
- Dark Elves will do more damage with their spells
No, DE "negates the magic resistance" of their target, if they have one
(= useless)
- Barbarian units will be even more resistant to spells
Any half-smart spellcasting hero will use non-damaging magic on barbarians or just cast spell on his/her own units.
(= useless too)
That's the reason why you can always turn to Dark Elf or Barbarian faction, even at high level, providing you have enough gold and resource to build castle structures. Because, of course, they hopefully have other in-game advantages that these lame faction skills! |
what do you mean by 'hunt only halves'. And its too late because im level 3 :-( Im debating on restarting. I usually restart in a game once I learn the ropes anyway... |
Read sticky topic with advices and check my combat log |

It is really really really insignificant, probably 1 to 2 damage? IF they have magic resistance =) |
11
I looked all over for that sticky topic and I don't quite understand based on your combat logs. Are you talking about using hunting assist as much as possible? |
13
When you see monsters on the map there is a threat level shown - white, green, yellow, red, red with an "!" circle.
Halves are white and green, thirds are yellow. You should hunt all but red ones - this way you get your 0.5 skill and very few exp. points. |
14
So basically when I hunt and it's a red one, I should pass and hope the next one is a monster I haven't hunted before and will be a white or green one? |
15
Or yellow. And I think I confused halves with thirds in terms of colors, sorry about that. Of course this is only important until you're lvl 3, afterwards it's all up to you, and you'll have to fight "reds" if you want to see your name in the list of hunting records =) |
A bit of a shame the topic kind of went off track later, but the first post is still there :P |
hmmmmmmmm
thank for this but i have 2 account

This isn't exactly on topic, but if you have an extrachar you should write about that in your personal info, and that char's info, too. |
useful information... but it wont really help those who is past the point of getting that luxury... In the end time will pay off as all good thinks takes patience and time... |
