Hi , I'd like to know interesting strategies to use with Dark Elfs . If Anybody would leave a personal working experience or a link would be very appretiated.
Thanks!

Hi Washrieen, you seem quite a new player. At low level, victory is a lot related to the faction you face, in a rock-paper-scissors fashion. Dark elves have no trouble dealing with Knights, Necromancers and Barbarians. They are par against Elves Wizards. They have a lot more trouble against Demons. My first advice is: choose your opponents.
Second, try to split your stacks at battle setup. It's a good idea to sacrifice a stack made of a single fighter to force big enemy stack to retaliate, then to hit him with all you've got while he's defenseless.
Third, use SHIFT while attacking. It's really important for dark elves. It allows Bandits to perform a close-combat attack instead of a shoot and believe me, Bandits are far better with knives than with their short bows. It also allows Rogues to stay where they attacked instead of coming back - very useful too when you fought your way to ranged units and want to deny them shooting.
Hope this helps. |
They have a lot more trouble against Demons
I'm Demon. The first who dueled me on 2 lvl without any chances for me was DE. Look this log
http://www.heroeswm.com/warlog.php?warid=468582710 DE is the most powerfull fraction on 1-3 lvls. other fractions I could win easily in duel |
3. True..
The first lvl's the DE have a great advantage, especially their rogues can be quite devastating, with the attack and return ability.
So a race with archers (like knights) is in a disadvantage against DE, cause the rogues are fast and can kill archers in 2 turns. |
And what about for the higher levels?
Rogues get eaten alive a lot of the time before they can do any dmg. And idk, maybe it's just me, but I feel like my Lizard calvary are sub par. They're about equal to the ogre's only because they have more speed.
Elves and Knights seem to be the hardest for me now, elves cause of the reasons everyone states. Knights have bowmen which are a pain if you can't get to the me, swordsmen hurt in a stack of 25+, and their griffins unlimited retal sucks as well. |

If you think about it, the attack and return ability of rogues is exactly the same than an 7 square ranged attack exposing the rogues to a possible retaliation. By all accounts a lot worse than a full-fledged ranged attack.
5.
Indeed, rogues are the first targets in high-level battles (after bowmen are dead). Rogues are fire magnets. Rogues deal good damage but they are frail - even in their upgraded version we'll see at level 8 - and can't escape all the ranged units available then.
But you can believe that rogues and Dark Elves are the ultimate warriors. In those times where everyone and his dog want to play Elves, I certainly appreciate this point of view. |
but I feel like my Lizard calvary are sub par.
You should remember that they have a special ability that makes them do more damage for every square they pass before strike. |

on higher lvls when fullart heroes have 17 defence + own defence of any unit, lizard cavalry is very dangerous. for example 11 vampires deal 70-100 damage in fullart battle, 10 lizard cavalry deal more than 200 damage, even if all stats in magic. |
sory, vampires deal 100-120 damage without arts, in fullart they deal 40-70 damage |
True, but my lizard isn't exactly running across town every time he attacks. I think the unlimited retaliation is sexier. But I guess I'll see when arts become more of the standard (I wear cheap ones only atm).
BTW, why do they make repair prices so ridiculous? It makes me not want to invest in the big artifacts knowing that I'll have to buy it again soon, on top of my castle upgrades. |
Oh, and I know this has been asked plenty of times, but from the looks of it, poisoners really do not seem worth the cost (since I was just talking about money). Does the Minotaur Soldier or whatever do nicely? |
Krik, poisoners are good. I was skeptic too but i got them and i love them.
The exchange ration between minos and poison is 1 to 2, in other words for 5 minos you got 10 poisoners and they have pretty almost the same stat and almost same amout of hp, but poisoners have 50% more initiative and they poison.
It seems not much but at the end of the game they usually will deal something like 60-70 poison damage and when it comes to melee, 2 of them deal the same amout of damage than 1 mino, plus poison.
So they are definately good, especially for being the lowest rank unit in DE possession, many other are not as good in comparison (hobgoblins, farmers...) |
to kotrin he is a new player |
