juries and keepers work from posts made by all players in CaA forums. They do not pick and choose who they investigate. All decisions made are based completely on the rules and it is very easy for anyone to look at transfer logs themselves and see that a decision is fair.
As a jurie member my ONLY remit is to look for:
- illegal transfers between a main character and his multis (when investigation starts Arctic provides a list of all a players characters so their is no personal decision on whether it is a multi or not),
- Financial assist from another player where we were instructed to look for transfer logs where most transfers were one way and a significant difference in the amounts sent and the amounts received existed.
- Unreturned loans - once again very obvious and easy to check. Either it was returned or it was not (no personal opinion involved here)
- Large transfers by players leaving the game. Once again very obvious as they almost always either say this is what it is in profile/transfer description OR the transfer all their gold, resources, elements & arts and then no longer login.
We do not issue any punishemnts, fines or blocks but pass a summary of our findings to Arctic for him to make final decision.
Since this was put on hold for all juries members in November all I have been able to do is write to very obvious cheats and try and aks them to stop and many have done this. My clan mates in LoS have not been exempt from this and in fact have been treated more harshly than others as I am still able to take additional actions against them by having them evicted from our clan. Just look at clan logs and you will see this is done whenever we find a cheat. We also tried writing to other major clan leaders informing them of their members involved (with the proof) and some act on this while others choose not to.
Being in a clan or not makes no difference to these FACT based exercises and every action is totally transparent to other players.
When I was invited to take up the post I offered to resign from LoS but was told by Arctic that this was not necessary. It also makes no difference as I have many friends here and in other clans and they are all perfectly aware that this will not help them in the least if they are cheating.
MODs actions should be the same, they should apply the rules exactly as they are written and as long as they are applied equally and to all involved then it not relevant which clan(s) they are in.
In a previous similar topic from around a year ago I remember making the same arguement that no "official" characters should be in clans but at this time the arguements put forward by others were so sensible that I changed my viewpoint. The strongest factor in my change of mind over this was that it made no difference if someone left a clan or not. They would still have the same friends! |

Wow, I just noticed that there seems to be a rather severe shortage of staff in a couple of areas...
Keepers:
-Only Zyanya remains and she lists herself as being an inactive mod
Mods:
-Only Pang and Sven, all others are inactive
It's going to be really interesting to see how things develop with such a small staff. I can imagine that Sven and Pang are going to find themselves quite overworked. As for Keepers, who is to enforce the rules in CaA now? It would seem that the list of complaints there will run rampant as it has in the finance section since the jurists were abandoned. These cannot be good things for the community and may serve to only shorten whatever remaining time we have here.

There were originally 8 players from various clans invited to be Juries. Most of them resigned either because they found the work was very time consuming and/or no action was being taken since November. Juries have also never been paid or asked to be paid for the time and effort they have put in attempting to help tackle the major problem with cheats on our server.
Halvspak was not in LoS when he joined the juries but only joined our clan a few months afterwards. He is an honest and committed player and we were happy to accept him as one of our members.
The juries clan was created by admins at Arctic's request to try and enable more resources to be applied to help identify cheats and all currently active juries members were invited into it (by admins and not Arctic). The only resource delivered so far is the ability to run transfer log filters on any player (like other players can do for their own logs).
Admins then did nothing further though as they returned to do other things on .ru
From my understanding, Arctic is encountering the same problems were are in trying to get admin's to pay some attention to us. He is not an admin himself although he does have more powers than anyone else here but still needs their support in order to be able to do his job.
Like everyone else I have no means to contact admins directly except by writing a message to secretary for which I have never received a response. I also agree that without admins we cannot move forward but I love this game and will not give up hope until the very end. |

If the people appointed cannot do their duties while being in a clan...I agree completely. It boggles my mind how people cannot wear different hats in different settings.
Going back on a police metaphor (I have many friends in law enforcement here in US) there are 3 kinds of cops from what I've gathered.
The first kind goes home, as a father, a friend, a brother, etc. Recognizes that being a police officer is just a job--not his life.
The second kind goes home much like the first, except that he slips into cop mode when "Triggered." It creates embarassing situations at times for that person, but overall, still good company.
The last kind goes home, a cop...usually ends up alone, divorced, disliked by his peers, etc.
Everyone that wears any kind of uniform (ie position of authority), falls victim to these sorts of things. Clearly, some people are not cut out for this sort of work. They should quit if they cannot be a Mod when Modding is required. |
To take that same analogy one step further, there are also 3 types of criminals...
-Those that take their speeding ticket and go on with their lives
-Those that take the ticket, but make excuses for why they were speeding
-Those that want to argue with the cop and dispute the minutest detail in traffic laws or how it wasn't their fault but that the cop was just out to get them because cops are jerks or because some cop in particular has it in for them.
The third category are those that eventually end up filing a police brutality claim after cop #3 above on a bad day beats the crap out of them for running their mouths. The cop gets fired and the jerk in question goes on to repeat their actions with the next cop... the cycle repeats. We lose a cop, but the jerk isn't weeded out until he is speeding one day and wrecks, thankfully eliminating himself from the gene pool while hopefully not taking anyone else with him. |

Cops are people charged with responsibility, if they cannot handle it under the toughest situations, they should turn in their badges if they sense a breaking point is coming. You think the thought of giving someone the back-hand hasn't crossed my mind? Of course. It crosses everyone's mind. But some people require so little to make them 'snap.' Others require a lot to make them snap. Some people...never snap at all. If a Cop beats the crap out of someone over a petty dispute--they'll do it again, and it'll become easier and easier to do. This is why you get rid of those bad cops as soon as they blow-up the FIRST time. You don't let them cool off a little, so they can keep blowing up left and right...we don't need those kinds of cops.
You cannot change the society cops are expected to govern without playing God...people will always be people if they are allowed to be. That is all imperfect in some way--most being heavily imperfect.

Remember the jerk you mention above will, among other things, explain he argued with the cop to ensure rules are fair and balanced for everyone and by constantly whining and making noise he's making the whole police process better for everyone and that all cops should be perfect, etc.
Then, when caught in a corner and his behavior exposed, he will drape in dignity and claim a holier-than-you attitude and call on the dark motives of people contesting his point of view.

Reminds me of a real life case in America which was publicised world-wide quite a few years ago.
A cop with a few of his friends stopped someone in their car because he did not like "his kind of people". This person had done nothing wrong but he was dragged from his car and beaten up.
Fortunately a passer by had happened to witness the whole thing and captured the evidence of it. When this was made public this cop was shown for what he was and lost his job. It also caused a major back lash against a lot of innocent people and cops and some of the worst riots America had ever seen. This cop did not justify his position, in fact he went on international television and made a full apology for his actions. He accepted it was not his victims fault all this happened and accepted it was all down to himself. Many changes were made to the system to ensure that something like this could never happen again.
One thing which no one suggested though was that cops should not be allowed to be members of clubs or live in areas where there were other people. No one suggested that because a cop had friends it would make any difference to his ability to do his job. The remaining cops upheld the laws as they were written, they did not invent new laws or try and take justice into their own hands. They did not show prejudice or bias towards any future events they were part of. Instead they just did their job to the best of their abilities acting in a fair and consistant manner and did not allow personal feelings to interfere with their jobs.

All that said, based on a career in military service, I'm a real firm believer that some people deserve beatings and the character of the person who ultimately delivers it is largely independent of how greatly it is actually warranted. Just because a pedophile is beaten in prison by a murderer makes that pedophile no less deserving of the beating they receive merely because it came from a murderer.
For the sarcasm impaired - DiN, I'm saying you got what you deserved, whether or not Kotrin was acting abusively is irrelevant to that fact. You can protest your purity and innocence till the day this server shuts down and it will not make an iota of difference in my opinion of the situation. You deliberately acted to provoke and there's probably not a thing in this world you can say or do to change my opinion of that. Post all the BS "facts" you care to dredge up or fabricate it's irrelevant at this point. Is that a baseless accusation? Perhaps. Is it blackening your character? Perhaps. Is it unfounded? I don't know or care.
Maybe you should go cry to Arctic and see if maybe he will come start a public poll on whether or not you are being unfairly persecuted. It worked for you once, it will probably work again. Whining children get the most attention from their mother.

The difference is that have no problems at all with other people having opinions from mine.
For my own personal reasons and mainly down to my character I will not drop to the level of insulting people so wish you all the best with this game.
Anyone reading this will also be very capable of making their own opinions on both of us through our actions and posts.
I know you say you care nothing for facts however just because you do not recognise that they exist does not make them any less true. The facts remain the same and they are that I did not break any rules with my posts, I have never insulted anyone on the forums and I had no intentions of provoking or upsetting anyone in the post you are referring to. My ONLY purpose in that post was to congratulate a good friend of mine for achieving level 13 and I was totally astonished to receive a ban over it.
I dont believe I have ever talked with you before and I dont know you at all. I had never even seen your name that I can remember before your attacks started a couple of days ago. |
