AuthorStick to 1 fraction or change often ?

Sorry, I missed some words. :D

I think this debate is endless ... people wil always find reasons for switching and others find reasons not to do that ...

The point Kotrin and me are presenting is that after you reach level 7 or 8 in one faction, the advantage to get to the next level is at least balanced out by that of reaching some exp in other factions ...

The real disadvantage of switching is the cost ... the real advantage is that you have a decent defence against all attacks (incl. magic)
@22:

Hmm... BlackWave (aka OndaNera), I think you didn't get my point. Whatever you said there, I haven't denied it in my post and I said from the beginning that I don't have an answer for the question from the subject of this thread. I just gave a piece of information from my experience as player. I am not speaking only about the advantages coming from the change of faction as the game provides them, but I am speaking also as player experience.

In my case, as an Elf, I don't recommend changing to Elf at higher combat level as I don't recommend changing from Elf into something else and to come back to Elf after a while. Elf is a pretty complex faction and it has different strategy almost for each combat, depending on what alteration of the troops you use, the talents are changed, and so on (I change my troops and my talents at almost each non-pvp combat and also for pvp, I use the 2 sprites left or not which changes the settlement of my troops or I use to be might or magic depending on my partner - and I am not considering myself as mastering Elf). And, having the experience of Elf, I just extrapolate to all the factions (if I am wrong, I apologize).

So, how do you balance the player experience for any certain faction in the case of fighting with all the factions by changing them just to reach level 3-4 in all of them?
# 23
Well, it can be sort of balanced by the fact that playing another faction helps you learn their tactics and weaknesses, which helps in GB.
And don't forget that changing factions helps a LOT in TG.
Change as often as you like...for as often as you can afford it...changing factions gets quite pricey later on.

Cheers,
LS
Lol, too bad you were unable to grasp it...

I'm afraid it's you who are unable to grasp it. While working on gaining level 8, you have ALL the benefits for level 7 to draw on, whereas if you start to work on gaining levels in other faction, the only benefit you can draw on your level 7 faction is the damage reduction.

If you and I were at level 7 (faction), and I continue to work on level 8, and you swithch factions, assuming that we play the same amount of time, I bet you anything, anything, that I will attain level 8 long, long before you get your level 3-4 in those other factions.

So to repeat your timeline:

- Player 1 gets faction level 1 in one faction, gaining 3% damage resistance. Player 2 has faction level 7, and all its benefits.

- Player 1 gets faction level 2 in one faction, gaining 6% damage resistance. Player 2 has faction level 7, and all its benefits.

- Player 1 gets faction level 3 in one faction, gaining 9% damage resistance. Player 2 hast faction level 7, and all its benefits.

- Player 1 gets faction level 1 in another faction, gaining 3% damage resistance. Player 2 has faction level 7, and all its benefits.

- Player 1 gets faction level 2 in another faction, gaining 6% damage resistance. Player 2 has faction level 7, and all its benefits.

...

In the end, player 2 gets +2 attack, +1% initiative. Player 1 gets 12% damage reduction in 4 other factions, much much much later, possibly when player 2 already gets to level 9 in faction level.
What is missed completely...

Player A: Faction level 9 in X
Player B: Faction leven 9 in X an faction level 1 in Y

Anybody saying player A was better for sticking to one faction? :O

Same with all those "as long as he levels faction Y he is worse" arguments... change back to the "main" faction (or even have all factions at 9 (yeah... eventually...)) would clearly be superior.

Yeah, it is hard getting up; eventually it is the only thing that improves an account, though. And it won't get easier to work thorough. In addition, 3% may be 3% but many players fail to notice them and - especially in case of spells - their expected damage gets screwed, which can be a larger benefit than 3% suggests.

Personally... I started DE. Because thieving as wizard simply sucks. Yeah, it is possible... it still sucks.
When you are level 12 or higher and you feel boring, sometimes you need something different. You need something new to make you feel the excitement again. Changing faction can give you that excitement.

You can see for yourself, how many high level players have already switch faction? Trust me.. there is a very big possibility that you will want to switch faction too at high level.

Unfortunately, it is not that easy to change faction at high level (especially for some factions which depend so much on Faction Skill(FS). You will be "relatively very weak" player in your new faction. Can you imagine a combat level 13 Knight or Necromancer with FS 0 would be??

Not to mention that if you are a high level player and want to switch faction, you need hundred thousands of gold to build the castle. I lose more than 400K at once to build my DE Castle when I was level 11, and I nearly broke right now :(

Passing over combat level 11, 12, and 13 can be very boring task and can takes months to do it. So, IMO... it is better to have faction skill in some other factions when you are still in low level. Also, the gap between FS 8 and 9 are quite big and relatively hard to achieve for most players and will take months to achieve.

If only I can go back in time, I will make sure I have FS at least 3 for Knight, Necro, Demon and Wizard before I continue my journey to FS 9 as an Elf. FS 3 is relatively easy to achieve.

This will ensure, whenever I want to switch into that faction later on, at least I don't have to start from 0 or 1 :((
Sorry.. forgot to mention something.

IMO, the benefits of having some faction skill in some factions are for more excitement, better knowledge of the game and enjoy the game more. Also as preparation if you want to switch into that faction at high level.

The extra % for defense (IMO) is just an additional bonus for doing that.

I am not saying that if player A have FS in only 1 faction means that he is better (or worse) than player B who has some FS in some Factions.

I just said that those who switch factions, have more chance to enjoy this game, in a way that can never be felt by those who never switch faction

Enjoy what? Spending tons of gold don't seem to be enjoy
@30:

Gold is just a price that we should pay. You are still low level player and you don't have experience playing other faction than Necro (except 1 point as a Wizard) so maybe you can't understand yet.

Do your homework please. Check those who have Combat Level 12 or higher. How many players who are persistent and play 1 faction only.. and how many players who have played at least 2 different factions ?
I'm just a beginner, but have a question about switching. I was curious about what faction switching was, so i switcht from wizard to elf.
But now i wonder, if i switch back to wizard, is my castle still the way it was when i switched? Or do i have to build it all over again?

Your castle stays the way you left it. The talents stay too.

All you have to do is recruit your troops once again and put on miniarts. Dont be afraid, miniarts didnt disappear, if you had some you still have them. You just have to put them back on creatures.
Thank you for the quick reply. Then i can build an expensive part of my elf castle without losing it.
I guess i'm going to play more factions, just because i am curiuos what they can.
