No xp for gated units. |
You dont get xp for the number of necro troops killed but for the hp you kill.
For example normal vamps have 30hp each. However, each raise reduces the hp per vamp by 20% (for all vamps in stack including ones still alive before raise).
For necro's you get xp for the amount of hp you destroy whether from initial values or reduced values.
For gated units I have not really checked.
To be the first in this thread to actually prove my point!
Here are two ambushes I have had: both with DEs; both at level 9 & both of which I lost (e.g. all my troops killed).
In First: https://www.lordswm.com/warlog.php?warid=482607752
- I was killed without raising troops and DE got 4171xp
In Second: https://www.lordswm.com/war.php?warid=482789972
- I used ALL my mana doing max raises and DE got 7196xp |
what i've heard is that only the creatures you have to kill to win the battle give xp, so if that's true, it means that raised troops give xp, and gated don't... |

Based on these examples, I'm pretty sure exp is awarded based on the number of units killed, not the number of hit points. Your second opponents would not have gotten that much more exp if hit points were counted. |

Rather than just guess why dont you give your figures as to how you worked this out?
It is pretty well accepted by the majority of players that xp is based on damage done and not units killed. For example if 2 players do a shared hunt against 4 stacks of single high hp monsters and player 1 reduces each stack down to just 1 or 2 hp each but does not kill any and player 2 kills ALL monsters. It is player 1 who will get almost all the xp.
I play usually (and in both the battles above), with Adv Nature Magic & Dominion of Life giving me a max raise of: 160 + (20 x 3sp) = 220 hp! |
While I remember too. In my first battle above I had no arts and in second had medium arts (dont know if this makes a difference to xp)???
Also have 50 mana at start of battle. |

Having arts on makes a difference to xp for both sides, but not so much that it can explain a 3k+ difference in exp rewards as shown by Death in post 22.
It will support that it's by Hp and not number of creatures though since the exp amount would be a little lower if he had lost without arts. |

Ok.
Since we don't the exact values for creature worth here, I will use the exp from HoMM5, since their stats and abilities are nearly identical. Any difference will be minor and, I assume, relative.
You started the battle with 170 skel archers, 10 infected zombies, 35 apparitions, 15 vampires, and 5 liches. That's worth 3855 exp. points by HoMM5 standard.
During the battle, you raised apps 4 times (12.8/192, 13/156, 13/117, and 13/91), and vamps once (8/192). If you count by units, 51.8 apps and 8 vamps are worth 1885 exp points, for a total of 5740. If you count by hp, then 556 hp of apps and 192 hps of vamps are worth 29.3 apps and 6.4 vamps, or 1150 exp points, for a total of 5005.
As you can see, the ratio 3855/5740 is much closer to 4171/7196 than 3855/5005 is. |
lol - calculations get too complicated, but, I think it is safe to say that raised units DO give xp!
Now we just need the demons point of view to answer original posters question. |

I don't think anyone can doubt that after the proof you gave. However, I must admit that my experience with necro caravans seems to agree with Pantheon. Many times I let the necro raise till he ran out of mana, and I definitely didn't notice any increase in xp, compared to when I just defeated it quickly.
I wonder if it's different between player-vs-player battles and player-vs-AI battles. |
