Author | a hypothesis on caravans (unproven) |
However, once I levelled up, the caravans seemed to be easier for my lv8 army.
Maybe it's because lvl 8 is the biggest power up you get for reaching a new level.
1 New creature, 1 creature upgrade and a new magic guild.
Making it one of the rare lvl where your troops grow faster than caravans difficulty.
I didn't notice any difference when leveling up my TG. I'm lvl 3 soon and will see what happens.
I also doubt about the "meaty" point. I have looked at other factions ambushes, and they get ~same as me. |
I'm not exactly sure about the meaty issue since I've only done a few dozen ambushes at lvl 9 using knight and DE, but from my experience it was harder as DE.
This might be because my DE level was low and my art set was really geared for my knight. So I'm getting a few DE levels and changing to a thief set to maximize DE's fast attacks. |
I've just reached TG lvl 3.
Here are two combat logs of the same caravans. first one is at TG 2, second at TG 3. I didn't get this caravan in between.

Not sure what it meens, but i won the 2 combats. First one gave me 1200 XP, second one 1180 XP. I was using the same art set. |
for triplebuzze:
The caravans in the two battles you showed us are similar but NOT the same. If you look closely you will see that the first caravan had 3 stacks of shrews, 1 stack of rogues, and 17 assailants.
The second one had 3 stacks of ROGUES, 1 stack of shrews, and 16 LIZARD CAVALRY. That could explain the difference in exp you got for both battles with the same set of arts. |
I'm quite sure they are considered the same type of caravan. Sometimes the game will upgrade/downgrade units for you, while adjusting troop numbers to compensate for the increase/decrease in difficulty. If they were different caravans, the number of types of caravans would nearly be endless. And the first few caravans that contained upgraded tier 4 units would have been very easy the moment tier 4 upgrades were introduced.
The second combat ought to be harder, and perhaps it is, but I suspect the exp is lesser because the game rewards exp based on a different system from the system that it calculates the difficulty of a caravan.
Hm I don't have any examples as of now, but I believe there might be instances of X-brigands/invaders{n} that could give more exp than X-brigands/invaders{n+1} of the same type, and while wearing the same arts, because difficulty =/= exp. |
For Javi: Those are the same caravans.
A "caravn type" is just a formation.
ie: lizard/assaillant in the middle, a rogues/shrews stack in each corner.
Caravans have many random factors, that's why it's hard to find out the rules.
After doing some more ambushes, i'm almost sure their isn't a reset at TG lvl up. My win/loss ratio is dropping at an insane rate :/ |
For me every caravans in during 10 times fighting have same power .. though the types are different .. after 10 wins, then the numbers and the power increased .. also the mana and spell (exc. barbarians ofc) increased too .. :) correct me If I am wrong .. :) |
For Dark Elf I was winning 90% of my Ambushes I think.
I switched to Necro--a faction dependent faction--and only won 50% with faction level 5 at level 10.
Now I am faction level 6. We'll see if I do better...but it does seem like the caravans were way, way easier with dark elf :) |

Most players agree that necro is pretty bad against caravans.
I switched from Knight to DE for thieving and at first it was easier despite the fact my DE faction level was at 0, but the caravans quickly became much harder after only 10 wins.
50% wins seem to be normal at the higher lvls. Have you tried switching back to DE and seeing if you still get 90% wins? |
Hmm .. Bad or not against caravans for Necros .. I think it depends on the players that play them .. ^^ see MAIA .. he won many against caravans even without any raise .. :) |

look it..
i versus caravan demons..
very hard got 4 devils lol..
is this mean i cant win this battle??
got lvl 14 creature lol :x |

That's normal. High level creatures are in some types of caravans. They are hard for barbarians. A lot easier for magic based builds or factions with ignore defense.

I meant in relation to other factions. And of course there's always exceptions. A few players can always outdo the average players. |
yea... i really hate it when DE comes with a lot of lizards and assailants...
btw their SP is 16... no way i can defeat him tho... |
26+:
Sorry about that. I havent done any TG missions so I wouldn't know about that. But I do see what you mean that they are practically the same in terms of the formation and types of creatures that appear in the caravans. |
I just reached TG5 recently, but still in level 10.
I noticed that my efk's initiative increased from 18 to 18.2 (the same arts worn as TG4), while the initiative of shrewds in caravan of DE also increased from 18.2 to 18.4. That definitely means something. |
#35
Is it just the shrews? What about other units and other caravans? I know that initiative and the number of units in a stack can increase as a result of beating that specific caravan type. |
for GGW: Their initiative increased from 18.2 to 18.4 because you gained a combat level from 9 to 10. Not because of TG4 to TG5. |
In my entire lvl 7 ( TG 0, 1 & 2) The DE heroes stats where always the same :
attack : 5
def : 5
SP : 10
Kn: 6
Shrews ini: 17.8
assaillant ini : 12.2
But sometimes, strange things happen.
I met a DE caravan with the following stats
attack : 5
defence: 10
SP: 16!
Kn: 10
Only assailant on the field, but they had the usual 12.2 ini.
It was the first time i fought this one. |
for triplebuzze: That's a special type of DE caravan with enhanced stats. Don't know why they exist... but they have slightly lower attack, but much higher def, knowledge and spellpower, and always have lots of lizards with sometimes hydras.
As far as I know for caravans, the stats of the hero and the added initiative of their troops are only affected by your combat level. Nothing to do with your TG level, faction or how many times you've beaten or lost to them. |

Thanks for correcting me, i checked my combat records, that initiative increase is due to combat level up, not TG level up. |
