What exactly is it and what does it gain me?

Also, other few extra info;
You get points for all the factions you play with.
Recruit Difficulty gives - 0.80*100% points
Warrior Difficulty gives - 1.00*100% points
Hero Difficulty gives - 1.20*100% points
For one Faction of any level for a single campaign you can get maximum of 120 Points.
So, for One campaign as of now you can gain - 17 Factions * 120 Points
Hope this answers all your questions.
Also, AG is very costly to do.
Points system is based on amount of army left in your group when you complete a particular battle - *just like WG*.
And losing any battle more than 3 times will also, deduct the points from that specific battle.
