AuthorIs it me or ......
Is it me or the population of Lordswm is really low , i have been playing this game since it was called Heroes of might and magic or something like it , i have seen it with insane 10000 population before then the players reduced to 100-200 players , then after a few months again i saw it rise to 10000 when it was merged with the russian server , now again its fallen to 3000-5000. any reasons why this game keeps falling from time to time ??
Well right now most Russians don't play... at peak hours(evening server time) I think the population goes to 7k or more... during interesting events maybe even up to 9k. Obviously it's not as much as it used to be a few years ago(20k online), but still not that bad.

We got upto 10k+ when PoT was running iirc
That's an old game by now and it lacks new content to keep it fresh and new.

Agree, and its sad to see people suggest REALLY REALLY good ideas in InS yet it seems "Nobody" (Admins) read them.
I mean, I appreciate them making such good game, but this could be SO MUCH MOAR if they wanted to improve it.

i saw it rise to 10000 when it was merged with the russian server , now again its fallen to 3000-5000.
Before the Merge, I remember there were like 500-700 .Com Players Online, but now I can guess its reduced.
I'd say around 3-5% of Online Players are "English" (English Speakers I mean).

Still, I guess its too soon to say anything really, the game still has years before a "Serious" decrease in Online Players.
I still wanna believe Admins have something secretly to "Revamp" the game, and we all gonna be like "Woooaaaah SO KOOL :O"

The game needs something "Game-Changing" that is not Dwarf/Tribal Alt, or very Random Events (Portal, Survilurgov, Pirate, whatever).
It needs a complete Revamp in Talent Wheels, Magicks, Units (ReWork Zombies plz Omg), etc.

PS: I hope this doesnt end up being a "The game is dying" Thread though... xD

But yes, to answer your question:
There is less overall players than some years ago (AFTER the Merge).

Remember the game is in constant "Competition" with a whole "Industry" of Video Games.

I Love this game too much to write anything about its dying . I am just worried for it sometimes when i see less population. Lordswm and Chess are the games which i have loved like nothing else . When i first saw Lordswm it was like Chess remixed for me and i used to play it like mad 3 vs 3 battles for hours. Maybe i dont play it with the same frequency before but i havent stopped liking it no less that how i used to love it from my first day. I hope lordswm will find their way back into the mainstream with a huge update or something , just like they have always done. :)
well the calculation is an easy one:

what makes online games attractive, is playing against other players.

PVE are fun and all, but after a while, everything that is repeated over and over becomes boring.

Problem is, there is a huge power gap among players of same level, be it because of special artifacts, gold or real money. the more it goes, the more one needs to be involved and take time to stand at the top, you can't just pop in, play a couple games, then leave for a month - you'll miss stuff that makes a difference when playing against other players.

Therefore, most of the casual players avoid playing PVP, as they don't feel standing a chance if they fall in front of a "heavy" player (not mentioning the insults from eventual teammates in random pairings).

As a result, people get bored. And slowly abandon the game.

Also communication isn't the best thing around, with two different languages that don't really have a standard mean of exchanging information quckly.

Misunderstandings and lack of strategy (because of a lack of training) make a further reason for people not wanting to spend an hour on a PVP that is pretty much decided in advance.

To make a comparison with your other game, chess: in chess you have two players starting with the same units, strenght and chances. It will just be a matter of skill, that they developed playing even if it is only once every 6 months.

And no need to talk to a Partner during the game. That's why you can pop in, play it and then go do something else.
