Author | Ring of Thorns or Dragon's Eye? |
Which one is better for WG, Full AP GB and Ambushes, etc?
I honestly like Ring of Thorns because of the Defence, but Im seeing everyone picking the Dragon Eye even though it doesnt have the '+2 Def', which is a lot Imho.
Do you find one way better than the other or depends on situation?
Ty in advance. |
For barbs, elves, de, demon.. initiative is also very important. Don't know about necros, dwarves and tribals. They might do better with extra defense. |
take 1 Ring of Thorns and 1 Dragon's Eye :P |
For Dwarf in WG I found Dragons eye more important as needed the initiative for dreadbanes to hit first. Without them in the right place and hitting with rune of retribution by going early battle would be lost, or won by a lesser margin.
This was more or less important depending on the type. Versus defensive builds or multiple enemies (3 portal defenders) or castles, the extra def was usually more important, for others the extra ini helps more.
However ring of thorns is cheaper, so financially better to switch to them when you can.
I would imagine this is similar for many factions |
for Ipsen:
Take ring of thorns, initiative shouldn't matter for UN whereas def is very important. |

Speaking as someone who spent a lot of time as an UN, initiative does matter.
My full arts (expensive) set, I always take the dragon's eye. I find that the poltergeists are annoying slow so I use that to make them be a little bit faster. |
So... We can say that you dont need the Defence from Thorn Ring since you are supposed to attack first with Dragon Eye (Coz Ini), thus winning? |
for Ipsen:
Yeah, all frontal assault factions need ini, like V_V mentioned. Others don't, and it is better to have ring of thorns imo for them. |
I personally put points into defence and use a Dragon's eye, I do that because necro troops tend to be slower than others and you need to keep up at least. |
Dragon Eye got better stats, always better than Ring of Thorn.
and its very costly compare to Ring of Thorn. |
Dragon Eye costs almost 2.5 times per battle than Ring of Thorns. Can't take direct comparison. |

RoT = 2,919 / 30 = 97.3
DE = 10,495 / 60 = 174.9
DE is 1.8x more expensive per battle.
But I agree, it's not really much of a comparison, imo DE is an obvious choice. |

Strong range factions need ini. Think of a furry barb duel. Whoever move first wins. Unless you go for max liches you it won't matter that much to you, but still +6% ini adds up. I think of it as +6% damage (you hit 6% more often) and this is worth 2/3 ATK points. I guess you can mix one eye and one thorn, defense has its use too. |
if you can afford, dragon eyes.
But I am pretty satisfied with ROT |
