http://daily.heroeswm.ru/newscom.php?i=The_Art_of_Survival | Very interesting article. I never knew about CreatorofWidows record in ST.
2mil+ points are just unbelievable. He is an absolute mastermind when it comes to STs.
https://www.lordswm.com/tournaments_hist.php?tour=265&tid=3795&race=1 | Ok wow this is really excellent work taking into account the various participants (all masters of their own arena) and the extensive and detailed info on various questions, suggestions, etc.
Another great article! Thanks for sharing! | Interesting, thanks! | Indeed it was interesting. I also thought it a little amusing that the people they asked as to why people did not do ST tournies anymore were the people that were still doing ST tournies. Though in fairness it was more interesting that way and right to celebrate the achievements of these individuals.
I think the thing they face is that given the length of time many people have played this, the long term players are in different real life cicumstances than when they started. Independent of this people have only a certain amount of time to spend on this game. The more things you put in, the less each part will have time spent on it, with a bias on those that are the most rewarding either directly in terms of gold, fsp, exp or enjoyment etc. Within this realm ST for many does not feature high enough on any of these lists, especially when considering the time input to do it right and make it so that there was a decent reward. I think many just felt it wasn;t worth the hassle and things like watchers guild was better to do in terms of character building. For me at least I find ST interesting tactically, just far too time consuming. | ST system is very old and needs update if admins want to bring it back to life.
It seems to me that there are several reasons why people don't play ST:
1. Each combat takes too long
2. Not quite rewarding. You need entry fee + 5 full art combat, which is over 12k cost in total each time. But often times even if you win top 3 you don't make much profit from it. You might want to argue that ST gives good amount of fsp and exp/fsp ratio. It's true before, but now that we have WG, which gives even better ratio and better rewards. AND it's FAST!
IMO the second reason is more important.
My idea for ST improvement is to make it something like WG:
1. For each attempt in ST, you get HG reward after hitting certain score. For example 0.5 HG for 50k, 0.8 HG for 10k and 1 HG for 15K, etc.
2. After finishing a combat and hitting certain score, you get gold and mini-artifact reward. And this score need to be reasonably high, for example 25k for CL 16 or something like that. | Well said above 2 posters.
I rather say it's time to remove the Top 10% Prize Pool. Instead change it to a similar structure as what liuker suggested. Every 10,000 points will give you 100 Gold + 0.2 HG point s or something like that. And the top 3 still continues the same way as it does.
Or you know what, introduce a Survivors' Guild :P (Just kidding) | I think the far most interesting idea to popularise ST is to let some (or all) of the ST:s be played as insight tournament.
Big thanks to l_e_s_e_n_a for this post! | Interesting article indeed, thanks :)
I would certainly play more ST if it gave less exp. I don't care that much about reward and played almost every PvP tournament to test myself and try to get a shiny medal. Now however it seems that each new battle type is added gives a better fsp ratio than old ones, and so old guilds progressively become worse for character development as time goes.
I struggled enough being 2 fsp levels lower than some people in PvP for a time to ignore the consequences of bad fsp battle types. | I agree with everything that has been posted above. Everything needs to have its niche. With guilds the motivation with these stems from gaining both financial and fsp rewards, but for all except crafting you get some benefit for yur charcter. OF the other activities available (various tournies, roulette and cards) there is either a financial or other reward to it. +1 luck for tavern, massive exp quickly for auto tournies for those that want it, interesting battles, CG points and better financial rewards for the other tournies. For ST, none of those.
Solution - could be many and varied - but ultimately reduce the negatives and improve the benefits. That means make them take less time, nd give either a financial reward or link to another guild whether that is to an existing guild. Or some other system like the tavern, perhaps with other "drinks" you could gain. Say you get paid in silver (like the pirate thing) and can buy drinks that give short term stat bonuses (which don;t stack to prevent them having too drastic an effect).
To be honest I am not fussed at what they implement with the incentive, other than in my opinion if you want an improved population of ST people it should be for something that you cannot get elsewhere. |
