Depends how much money you want to invest on this game.
To be honest, any DU are better worth from CL 9+ since you can join CG battles. Some players may even argue it's too low level for the cost, and on higher level it has a better cost/benefit.
In the end, depends how much you want to spend on this game. |

you can become lvl 5 in even 1 day.. its worth to buy DU from lvl 13 or 15 bcos u stay there for longer time |

| If you have plenty of money, go buy them. They cost the same as if you exchanged diamonds to gold, plus you get them 2 levels sooner. |
if money is not a concern then go ahead and buy everything with diamonds!
but, i doubt that's the case since you're asking this question.
i'd say use diamonds only for DU at higher levels so that you'll enjoy the advantage for a few months at least (CL 10+) and for TGI. CL3 to CL5 takes about a month at most, so DU is definitely not worth it! |
If you have money to spend, then do as Hallion said.
There's a big advantage of owning DU, and it's pretty rewarding to face a oppoent without it, mainly on TG battles. |
Some upgrades are better value than others.

Being 5 years old some of the details may have changed, but it is another factor you can consider if you intend to purchase diamonds.

if we are talking about our main faction(any), better upg in early as possible. if that faction is not main you can avoid it :P
PS: after releasing classes only DE tire 1 is can avoid all other is good for either normal or class |
