Author | Position of the phantom |
If you cast Phantom spell on a unit standing at button "5" on your number pad in the keyboard (7, 8, 9 in a row; 4, 5, 6 in the second row; 1, 2, 3 in the last row), what is the priority rule to place the phantom around it?
I only know that if "4" is empty then the phantom is at "4" so the sequence start with "4". If "4" is occupied, which number position will the phantom appear? Then if the number position is also occupied, which number will be considered next?...
The sequence is 4,?,?,?,etc.
Is there a general rule for that?
Thank you. | The list extends indefinitely as in the case of a surrounded "5", so most likely there's a general rule for it, although I don't have one and I don't think it will be revealed.
But the first 8 should suffice for our every-day use.
We have similar, if not the same, algorithm for where the AI will attack from, where the gated stack will appear, etc. as well
If I look at an easy hunt, it's something like 4, 8, 2, 6, then the diagonals for AI attacks.
It's one extra assumption to hold that they use one universal algorithm, but it simplifies a lot of things development-wise, so it's also quite likely. But I don't have phantom, nor gating to test things out.
As an aside;
This is clearly a design flaw to me, players on the right side should have this algorithm mirrored about the vertical axis (or vice versa).
Same goes to movement algorithm (this is only significant for firewalls, traps, and possibly other abilities to do with the number of tiles moved) as well as anything that depends on the upper left corner of a large creature.
These things just cause asymmetry when flipping the whole board horizontally shouldn't make a difference. |
