Recently, my mom has been experiencing unbearable pain in her legs. We went to several doctors, did all tests including ECG, but they have not been able to find anything out except giving her painkillers which obviously is not a cure. The other thing is that this problem doesn't occur continuously - suddenly it disappears one day and she is all fine again. Then it again occurs after some weeks. Otherwise, she is healthy and has no other diseases. Has someone/know someone who has experienced this? |
See more doctors? Run more tests?
Aside from pain what are the other symptoms (if any)?
There is something called restless leg syndrome, but I'm going to guess it isn't that if she's already seen several doctors.
What tests have been done?
-Exercise tests
-xray
-mri
-blood tests (there are ~50 standard tests there)
-stool tests
Has she been traveling? Out of the country? Diet change? Weight change? |
The internet is not the best place to ask medical questions :). Nevertheless, do you know all the tests that were given? And did do you know if they all came back as normal or negative?
It'll help narrow down what she could possibly have.
Also any other possible conditions?
Do you know where the pain is located in her leg? The leg is pretty large.
Any mood changes? Has she been depressed or seem more sad than usual?
It could be Parkinson’s disease. |

Donno how much more :(

None really. Not even headache.
She has done xray, blood tests (donno which but whatever the doctor had recommended). Let me check what else she has done.

Actually, this is what she is saying is the problem. It has been about 3 years we have shifted withing the country but to a different state. She says that where we formerly lived, she had no such problems. |

Ofc! I just wanted to know your opinion guys so that I could do more research on the subject and maybe approach another doctor accordingly.

Nah! She's rather happy.

Very true. But only thing she can say is she is unable to move her legs without considerable amount of pain. |

I did a small research on this and the symptoms I found where not what my mom is actually suffering from. I mean, its not like she feels she has to move her legs as a result of some urge. Instead, it pains her when she moves her legs. She has no problems while sleeping, sitting or even much while standing. |
Forgive me, but you must ask your mother to walk for a bit and get a better description of the pain.
Try to get the location. Ask your mother where does it mainly hurt? Is there a center for the pain?
Does she think it's muscle, bones, veins, or nerves?
Also have her describe her movement. Does her muscles feel stiff? Is there a tremor?
Does have trouble starting movement? Continuing movement? Is it slow?
How about her stool (aka is she constipated)?
Do you notice anything in her speech?
Have you traveled by plane recently?
You might need to feel your mother's legs to find some of it out. |
does she stand for long hours withour break? then can be problem with nerves due to excessive pressure on nerves due to standing fr long hours wihtour break |
It might be something called claudication; that is caused by a narrowing of blood vessels to the limbs. Does she have pain in the thighs or calves? This is typically caused when she will try to walk for some time. The pain should increase and then decrease with rest. But this is usually chronic; it will not occur once in a few weeks. To find out, a doppler study of the ileofemoral arteries is required.
The other possibility is a neuropathic pain, in which case I would recommend a MRI of the lumbosacral spine. But it depends on the examination..if she has a loss of sensation anywhere on the legs.
What Knightof Dusk suggests is also relevant. |
Thanks for your suggestions guys. Locking this thread for now. Will check all what you have said and if any progress, will ask a mod to unlock and trouble you for some help again. Thanks a lot again. |
