| If I was a barbarian level 5 (not actual barbarian :)) then should I get hobgoblins? Or is it a waste of money? |

Hobgoblins are good. From the combat log of certain high level barbarians , hob goblins (around 70-100 stacks) roughly do around 600 dmg. I think even more.

recruits increase training`s effect and therefore knight`s army.

it`s up to you. sometimes you need hobgoblins for one-hit-one-kill, but there are situations like 100 guardians standing in front of you, then you use wolf raiders.
anyway, the construction won`t hit your pocket and it`s worth its cost. |

| I don't know, but I can tell you that in general you want to max out hobgoblins before wolf riders. |

barbarians have generally become pretty weak at every level after the last update.
the only one who might have trouble facing a barbarian at level 7 is a might-DE because of shooters` absence. so, hobgoblins don`t seal the fate. |

i guess the question is whether he should get hobs, and not which others are better...
imo yes you should get them; they are much better than goblins, and deadly in large numbers... |
