I think that before hunting, a player should un equip all his equipments. The purpose is such that the equipment's durability is not reduced much so that they can be used in more serious battles, or other quests

You can save up a lot of gold before to reach lvl 5. Then, it will be much harder.
And yes, definately, hunts should be seen as a way to make gold, not a way to spend it - except maybe if you plan to do records.
