It lasts forever from level 5 onwards. After level 5, you will need more AP, therefore the cost per battle will be MORE.
is there a way to stop this
No way. All characters 5 and above must use artifacts to battle.
No gold? Don't want to enroll? Here's a way to battle WITHOUT artifacts:
1) Go merc's guild and keep on declining quests until you reach a quest where you need to deliever something to a location. Accept that.
2) Travel around UNTIL you get ambushed. Keep trying. Then delieve that item, and complete that quest.
3) Repeat from step 1. After you start losing, just continue. You still gain exp and level up, all without any gold!
